Catelynn Lowell & Tyler Baltierra: Divorce Isn’t So Bad!

Last week, rumors that Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra were headed for divorce made their way across the social media landscape with surprising speed.

Typically, when such reports surface but are not confirmed by either half of the couple in question, it's easy to dismiss them as unfounded gossip.

Tyler with Catelynn

But in this case, there was real reason to believe Catelynn and Tyler may have called it quits.

Fans began to talk after noticing that Catelynn had unfollowed Tyler on Instagram.

(There was also much chatter about the fact that she had changed her name to "Catelynn Lowell" on Instagram, but in fact, that had always been her display name.)

And while that may have been the most recent indication of trouble in paradise, it certainly wasn't the only one.

On top of the suspicious social media activity, the fact that Tyler and Catelynn spent Mother's Day weekend in separate states had fans on high alert.

All of this came on the heels of a very public rough patch that was documented on the latest Teen Mom OG season finale.

Catelynn Lowell, Tyler Baltierra on Instagram

In the episode, Catelynn - who was fresh from a 6-week stint in Arizona rehab center - told Tyler that she feels she may need to return to the facility for further treatment.

Tyler encouraged his wife to seek out a facility closer to home for the sake of their daughter, prompting Lowell to reply, "She'll manage."

Later in the episode, Tyler confessed to his sister that he had begun to grapple with fears that Catelynn might not be the right partner for him.

Fans were stunned, and many pointed out that it was not the first time that season that Tyler and Catelynn had broached the subject of divorce.

Needless to say, it's not hard to see why fans were so quick to buy into the latest round of breakup rumors.

But against tough odds, it seems the Baltierras are determined to make their relationship work:

The Baltierras

Tyler posted the above photo to Instagram earlier this week.

"Damn! I think divorce looks pretty good on us," he captioned the pic.

"But we are getting a divorce #nothingcanstopus," Catelynn added.

It's important to note, of course, that Tyler and Catelynn both seem to have posted those comments sarcastically.

Catelynn even added a series of cry-laughing emojis to drive the point home.

And fans who are rooting for the beloved couple have found further encouragement in recent comments from Catelynn's father, David Lowell:

Tyler and Catelynn Post-Therapy

"Tyler is in Texas visiting his dad Butch and Catelynn is in Florida with Nova visiting her older sister," David said of the couple's weekend apart.

"Everything is good as far as I know. I don't know about the Instagram name change. I didn't notice."

Catelynn also addressed the rumors with a candid social media post:

"[Tyler Baltierra] and I are not getting a divorce," she wrote.

"Couples go through ups and downs that’s normal life. We are a solid couple that will work through anything life throws at us!"

So we guess it's safe to say Tyler and Catelynn won't be calling it quits anytime soon.

It's a refreshing change of pace, as TMOG couples don't have the greatest success rate.

Catelynn Lowell-Tyler Baltierra Divorce: Is It Really Happening?!

Last week, Teen Mom OG fans were stunned by news that Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra were divorcing after three years of marriage and nearly 13 years as a couple.

More shocking than the rumor itself, however, was the fact that it seemed to be rooted in reality.

Catelynn changed her name from Baltierra back to Lowell on Instagram, and fans were able to confirm that the couple spent Mother's Day weekend in separate states.

All of this came on the heels of a difficult year for the Baltierras that saw Catelynn suffering a miscarriage and both parties battling mental illness.

Did it all get to be too much for one of the Teen Mom franchise's most beloved couples?

Here's what we know so far:

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra: Actually Divorcing?!

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra have been together for a long time.

A really, really, really long time.

Catelynn Lowell, Tyler Baltierra on Instagram

Forget being high school sweethearts -- they're actually middle school sweethearts, if you can believe it!

They got together when they were just twelve years old because, as Tyler explained in that book they released a few years back, Catelynn had "the biggest tits in seventh grade."

But it doesn't matter why they got together, because they've obviously formed a deep, loving relationship.

They've been through so much together, including but certainly not limited to the abusive, drug-fueled marriage of his father and her mother and the birth of Carly, the child they placed for adoption.

Things were rocky between them for a while during those teenage years, but they stayed together and now they're married with a daughter, Nova, and they've been open about their plans to expand their family.

Unfortunately, it looks like they've entered a bit of a rough patch in the last few months.

Catelynn had a miscarriage back in the fall, and both she and Tyler had a hard time dealing with it, understandably.

Tyler and Catelynn Post-Therapy

She struggled so much that she contemplated suicide, and when she realized how bad things were, she decided to spend six weeks in a treatment center in Arizona.

Tyler was very supportive of that, but when she decided to go back for another six weeks shortly after coming home ... well, that was a bit different.

All of this went down on the last Teen Mom OG season finale -- about three weeks after coming back, Catelynn told Tyler that she was still struggling and thought another rehab stay would be the best thing for her.

He urged her to try dealing with things at home first, since Nova had a hard time going without her mom for so long during her first trip to rehab.

But she'd already made up her mind.

In a surprisingly candid chat with his sister, Tyler complained about Cate's decision, and he even compared her leaving for multiple trips to rehab to his father being in and out of his life when he was a child.

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra Snuggles

He said that he'd told Catelynn that going back to Arizona might be the best thing for her, but that trying treatment at home would be the best thing for their daughter.

Her response to that, according to Tyler?

"She'll manage."

He honestly seemed a little disgusted by her attitude about Nova's wellbeing, and many fans were as well.

He was so upset that during that conversation, he even told his sister that maybe he and Catelynn weren't right for each other anymore.

It was the second reference to a possible divorce in that single episode -- earlier. she'd told him that maybe he should just leave her, since she'd been having so many problems.

Not a great sign, honestly.

Catelynn Lowell with Tyler Baltierra Photo

But the episode aired, and Catelynn and Tyler tried their best to prove that these days, they were doing a lot better.

There have still been some pretty concerning signs though.

One was a tweet Tyler wrote last month in which he wrote that even though he was lying in bed next to his wife and listening to his daughter sleeping on the baby monitor, he still felt "so empty and so alone."

Another has been the poetry he's been sharing on social media, which is all pretty dark and has honestly made it seem like he could perhaps be suicidal.

But a couple of days ago, he shared a new poem ... and if we were Catelynn, we'd definitely be feeling a little upset.

In this poem, Tyler called himself "that pathetic f-ck up who got famous just for f-ckin his girlfriend & gettin her knocked up."

"That motherf-cker ain't sh-t," he continued, "that motherf-cker's gotta take a hint, he's gotta get it together if he wants his life to fit."

Tyler Baltierra and Fancy Jacket

"That motherf-cker's gotta get a job even though I doubt that he could, & he's gotta leave that broad if he ever wants to be heard."

So ... that's not great.

In the caption for this post, he explained that these were the kinds of things he hears from people -- from his haters, if you will.

It sounds like he doesn't actually believe these things, he's just turning insults around because he thinks it's "ironically motivating."

Still, if you take this and add in the other developments from the past week, things aren't looking too great for the Baltierras.

As you may have heard, there was a big fuss because fans noticed that on Catelynn's Instagram, she lists her last name as Lowell instead of Baltierra, her married name.

The thing is that her name has always been Catelynn Lowell on Instagram, and the name thing got more attention than a much more interesting little tidbit, which was that for a little while, she actually unfollowed Tyler.

Catelynn Lowell Instagram Selfie

Besides that, they didn't spend Mother's Day together -- she was in Florida and he was in Texas.

He didn't even write a big gushy message about her for the holiday, which, if you've followed this couple for any length of time, you know is very, very strange.

There's been so much going on to point to a possible split that Catelynn felt the need to address the rumors.

In a statement, she wrote that they aren't getting a divorce, and that "couples go through ups and downs, that's normal life."

"We are a solid couple that will work through anything life throws at us!"

Which is even more suspicious, because while she did say they aren't getting a divorce, she definitely implied they were going through some issues.

Come on, Baltierras, pull through!

Catelynn Baltierra Changes Last Name, Sparks Divorce Chatter

GULP.

Might there be trouble in romantic paradise for Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra?

Social media users now have reason to believe that the couple, who has battled through cheating rumors in the past, may be headed for a split as a result of Catelynn doing something drastic online:

She changed her last name.

The Teen Mom's three million Instagram followers were recently surprised to see what Catelynn is now using "Lowell" on her official page, switching from "Baltierra" to her maiden name because...

... well. We don't know why.

But it's worth taking a look through the tandem's recent history, online and off, to see if this means they're headed for divorce court:

1. No Happy Wishes Here

Tyler and catelynn post therapy
Right around the time Catelynn made this switch, we learned that Tyler did NOT wish his wife a happy Mother's Day. Heck, the two didn't even spend the holiday together.

2. Where Was Tyler?

Catelynn lowell and tyler baltierra snuggles
The Teen Mom's dad told Radar Online that his son-in-law was "in Texas visiting his [father]" for Mother's Day. That can't be a good sign.

3. And Where Was Catelynn?

Catelynn baltierra
Per her dad again: "In Florida with [daughter] Nova, visiting her older sister." This is nice and all, but not ideal to spend Mother's Day apart from your husband.

4. Might Personal Troubles Be Affecting the Relationship?

Tyler baltierra is mad
Tyler has admitted that he suffers from Bipolar Disorder, a serious condition that often has a negative effect on one's relationships. "I’ve been doing non-stop research on the diagnosis, the different remedies to combat symptoms, & how to better understand it," he wrote on Instagram toward the end of April 2018. "I did refuse medication, but only because I wanted to try all of the natural remedies first. It's a journey."

5. A Search for Happiness

"Laying in bed next to my peacefully sleeping wife. I can hear my daughter snoozing away through the monitoring her room. My dog is cuddled up on the floor next to to me... and yet Feel so empty and so alone," wrote Tyler a few weeks ago, giving followers a glimpse into his sad mental state.

6. Concern All Around

Tyler Baltierra’s Latest Tweets Have Fans Concerned About His Health

Tyler Baltierra is one of the more beloved husbands in the Teen Mom franchise in large part due to how candid he's been regarding his struggles with mental illness.

Last month, Baltierra revealed that he suffers from bipolar disorder, and he was widely applauded for helping to de-stigmatize the condition by discussing it openly.

Of course, now fans are on the alert and many have been looking for signs of a manic or depressive episodes in every word that Tyler posts on his social media accounts.

Rumors that Baltierra is suicidal have been circulating for the past week, and it seems his latest tweets have only led to increased concern from some of his followers.

The strange thing is, the tweet that's attracting the most attention sees Tyler revealing one of his favorite therapeutic activities.

"I have always loved writing & as a kid I used to write poetry, I had pages full of it!" Baltierra wrote.

"But I gave it up when I got a little older & ended up throwing it all away. I’ve been inspired recently to pick it back up & I’m on a mission to refill my notebook! #SelfCare #MyOwnTherapy"

Tyler Baltierra and Fancy Jacket

On its own, the tweet would likely give the impression that Tyler is in a very good place these days.

But he posted it along with some snippets of his poetry, and fans are worried about the references to suicide and self-harm that appear in Baltierra's verse.

"From on top of this mountain, I'll cut these ties, not my wrists," he writes in one poem.

"I'll fight with these words, instead of my fists," he continues.

"I'll take this newfound strength, leap & fly out of this cage & I'll make sure I'm the only one who's in control & I'm the only one who's turning the page!"

Tyler and Catelynn Post-Therapy

It sounds to us like Tyler's feeling empowered and optimistic these days, but many of his followers just can't get over that reference to self-harm.

The issue, it seems, is that suicide is on Tyler's mind at all, even as an option that he staunchly rejects.

Ever since he went public with his diagnosis of bipolar disorder, fans have been on the lookout for the jarring mood swings that often characterize the disorder.

And many are concerned that self-harm will remain in Baltierra's thoughts during one of his inevitable depressive lows.

It's not hard to see why they're concerned, but ultimately, this amounts to armchair psychotherapy from people who don't know enough about Tyler or his condition to make predictions about what will happen next.

Amber Baltierra: Tyler Baltierra’s Sister Enters Rehab for 3 Months

Teen Mom OG viewers will recognize Amber Baltierra, the sister of Tyler Baltierra.

While Tyler has recently discussed the fact that he is bipolar, Amber has her own troubles. Hers, it seems, have been getting worse.

And now it is revealed that she will be checking herself in to a 90-day stint in rehab. But why?

Amber Baltierra

Amber tells fans that she is going away by sharing a couple of (filtered) photos of her children, writing on Instagram:

"These two. They are my rock. My motivation. My inspiration."

That's exactly what we want to hear from any parent.

"The reason I breathe and wake up every day."

At times, her message slips from being about her children to being directed at her children.

"Mommy loves you [two] more than you guys may know right now."

She says that she is doing this for them.

"You both deserve nothing but the best and I will give that to you."

Amber Baltierra Kids 01

In talking about how much she will miss her kids, she reveals how long she will be away.

"I’m gonna miss you these 90 days."

That's a very long time. But she knows that they will be okay.

"I know dad and everyone else will keep you busy this summer."

Her thoughts will always be with her children.

"Just know I love you both with every fiber in me."

This step, which she is taking for herself, will also help her to be their parent.

"When mom gets home she’s gonna be the best woman I can be and an even better mom."

Teen Mom fans already understand that Catelynn Lowell's mental illness does not make her a bad mom. So surely they can understand that Amber's troubles don't meant hat she loves her kids any less.

Amber Baltierra message

She does not explain why she is entering rehab, but she does write:

"I’ll pray for your comfort and happiness everyday I’m not with you."

That is so sweet.

"Show the world [you're] my babies and you guys are strong and can get through anything."

And she shares some words of inspiration with them:

"Because well, you got Baltierra blood and it don’t get stronger than that"

Amber Baltierra Kids 02

Her estranged husband, Billy Wade Elkins Jr., tells RadarOnline that Amber Baltierra will undergo treatment at a Texas rehab facility. And she's leaving very soon.

"She's going to Texas. She leaves Friday."

Her father, Butch Baltierra, had already confirmed that she would be doing a stint in rehab.

Though Amber did not specify why she is entering rehab, it is reported that this may be for relationship issues as well as alleged drug use.

We hope that this experience helps her.

(Also, check out this throwback that she shared of her and Tyler)

Tyler Baltierra and Amber Baltierra

One insider claims to RadarOnline that, in their opinion, Amber is going to rehab as a sort of ... vacation?

"I think it's an excuse to ditch her responsibility as an adult."

They say that she is no genuinely trying to change.

"Not to really get any help."

This source does not expect to be overwhelmed by the results of Amber's 90 days away.

"I'd be very surprised if she came out changed for the better."

Amber Baltierra twitter profile pic

This insider also thinks that it may be some sort of stunt.

"Amber in my opinion is only going to therapy for attention and what it does for the show."

Overall, this person clearly does not think highly of Amber.

"She's just irresponsible, immature, so maybe it'll get her act together." Yikes.

We wish Amber Baltierra the best of luck during her rehab stint.

We can only imagine how much she will miss her children. She's planning to be gone until August, folks.

And while we're sure that Tyler understands, Catelynn Lowell only returned from rehab last February. Now, his sister is entering a facility.

It's good that they're getting help, but he has to be missing these important figures in his life while they're away.

Tyler Baltierra: Is He Suicidal?

To say that things have been rough for Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra recently would be a pretty massive understatement.

And that's because things have been undoubtedly, overwhelmingly hard for a long, long time now.

Tyler Baltierra and Fancy Jacket

Besides, you know, all the problems they have that stemmed from having parents with drug addictions and a tendency to be cruel, plus the trauma they experienced after placing their first daughter up for adoption, they've been dealing with some severe mental illness in the past few months.

Catelynn gave birth to their daughter Nova in 2015, and after that she developed postpartum depression.

Her depression lasted for a long time, and it was so bad that she had to check into a treatment center in March of 2016. But even after coming home after that, she still struggled a lot.

At some point last year, she seemed to feel a bit better, at least enough that she and Tyler decided to try for another baby.

She did get pregnant, but she had a miscarriage, which triggered suicidal feelings.

She went off to rehab to get that under control, and after six weeks of treatment, she came home, where she stayed for a few weeks before deciding she needed even more treatment.

Catelynn Lowell, Tyler Baltierra on Instagram

Six weeks after that, she came home again with new medications, a new diagnosis of PTSD, and an urge to help others suffering from mental illness.

One of those other people?

Tyler.

While Catelynn was in treatment after the miscarriage, Tyler stayed home, caring for their daughter and their home and their business, all while grieving himself.

As the weeks went on, he seemed to become overwhelmed with it all, and he was open about what a difficult time he was having.

He went to therapy himself while Cate was away, and he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

There have been rumors that after she came home and got settled back in that he would go to treatment himself, but he's denied those rumors, saying that if anything, he might go on a spiritual retreat for a week or so.

Tyler Baltierra Selfie

But for the past few days, he's been making some strange posts on social media that has fans more concerned than ever.

It started last week when he tweeted that he's always loved writing and that he used to write poetry when he was younger, so he decided to start up again.

"I gotta tell ya," he added, "what comes out of this brain of mine onto paper...Freaks. Me. Out. My brain is a way darker place than I thought."

After that, he apparently felt moved to tweet a little sample.

"Why do I always do this to myself," this poem began. "Why do I always ignore what's safe for me & instead go search for some fatal battle, like I would rather be dead or let the devil take the handle from me."

"What's wrong with me!? What's wrong with this brain of mine!?"

Tyler and Catelynn Post-Therapy

The next day, he added to it, writing "What's wrong with this brain of mine. How can I just sit here & build up so much f-cking rage & pain inside."

"It's like I'm my own worst enemy & fighting this demon inside of me possesses all of my energy, so where's the preacher at? I've been cursed & I don't think I'm coming back."

Then he really shared a lot on Instagram -- he posted what looks like a screenshot of a series of these poems he typed up.

There's a bit cut off, obviously, and you can read all of it if you feel moved to do so, but even at a glance, it's obvious that this is all pretty dark.

You can see a bit about his father, Butch, in the line "I can still find the strength as a man even without the influence of a dad."

In another section, he wrote "From on top of this mountain, I'll cut these ties not my wrists. I'll fight with these words instead of my fists."

Tyler's poetry

Suicide and violence? Uh ... you OK, Tyler?

The newest poem he shared is very similar to all the others -- more ramblings about his brain.

In this one, he wrote about "feeling broken, beaten, devalued, out of place."

"It just leaves me shattered and every time I think about my life, my brain becomes battered with only one question...does my life really even matter?!"

In the caption for this one, Tyler explained that it's "relieving to have somewhere to put all these thoughts & emotions," and he added a "my own therapy" hashtag.

But with all these extremely troubled thoughts about self worth and cutting wrists, maybe it's worth looking into some additional therapy, you know?

It seems like Catelynn is feeling better these days, so let's just hope that Tyler can do the same.

Tyler Baltierra: I Suffer From Bipolar Disorder

For much of the past two years, Catelynn Lowell's struggle with mental illness has been documented by Teen Mom OG camera crews.

Lowell has been commended for her bravery in being so honest about her difficulties, and many have heaped praise on her husband, Tyler Baltierra, for his endless support of his struggling wife.

Tyler Baltierra Is Mad

Now, Tyler is opening up about his own mental health issues, and like Catelynn, he's sharing details about his battle in hopes of diminishing damaging stigmas encouraging fans to seek help when they need it.

Baltierra revealed on Twitter this week that he's been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

In a series of candid tweets, Tyler revealed that he initially planned to keep his diagnosis a secret, but was encouraged by his wife to go public with his struggle.

“Honestly, I wasn’t even planning on releasing that info, but once Cate mentioned about my recent diagnosis, I figured “what the hell!?" the 26-year-old tweeted.

Catelynn Lowell, Tyler Baltierra on Instagram

"Like why am I so against telling anyone!? It’s actually been a little easier to digest since I have been talking about it more,” he added.

Asked if he plans to seek a pharmaceutical solution, Baltierra reveals that he has not yet decided on a course of treatment:

“Well tbh it’s still so new to me," he wrote.

"So, I’ve been doing non-stop research on the diagnosis, the different remedies to combat symptoms, & how to better understand it. I did refuse medication, but only because I wanted to try all of the natural remedies first. It’s a journey,”

It seems the diagnosis did not come as a total shock to Tyler, who has long suspected he may suffer from a mental illness.

Tyler and Catelynn Post-Therapy

“He mentioned in the past that he thought that maybe he suffered from bipolar disorder, but he wasn’t sure,” a source explained to Radar Online.

“He’s talked about his mood going from super funny and goofy, which he’s known for, to his depressive phases. That was a red flag for him."

It's unclear if Tyler's mental illness will be addressed on future episodes of Teen Mom OG.

But for now, Baltierra is doing his fans a great service by opening up about his condition on social media.

Catelynn Lowell Opens Up About Suicidal Thoughts In Shocking Interview

As expected, last night's Teen Mom OG reunion show was loaded with drama, much of it having to do with ongoing questions about Ryan Edwards' sobriety.

But while Ryan's situation may have dominated the tabloid headlines in recent weeks, he's certainly not the only member of the TMOG cast to grapple with personal demons this season.

Catelynn Lowell Instagram Selfie

Catelyn Lowell checked into rehab three times over the course of the past year.

Unlike Ryan, however, her primary battle was not with substances but with mental illness.

Lowell opened up about experiencing suicidal thoughts prior to seeking treatment in November, and during her interview with Dr. Drew that aired last night, she revealed that her situation has improved dramatically in recent months.

“If I don’t go somewhere else today, I’m going to off myself and life would be 10 times better,” Catelynn said, recalling her lowest point.

“I could picture myself driving into an electrical pole off the road, praying it would kill me. But I wouldn’t do it because I had my kid in the backseat.”

Catelynn Lowell with Nova

These days, Catelynn says, her life is not without its struggles, but changes in her diagnosis (Lowell suffers from PTSD) and her medications have left her feeling that she's equipped to handle the ups and downs.

Lowell also says she's quit pot for good after being advised that the use of recreational drugs might have exacerbated her condition in the past.

For his part, Tyler said he still smokes occasionally but was quick to add that he never gets high in his wife's presence.

“I don’t smoke around her,” Tyler told Dr. Drew.

Lowell stated in several recent interviews that Tyler has been endlessly supportive throughout her recent struggles.

The segment ended with more good news for the Baltierra clan, as Tyler's troubled father, Butch Baltierra, joined the proceedings via Skype and informed the audience that he's been sober ever since completing rehab back in November.

It was a bittersweet interview, with Lowell addressing the subject of her miscarriage and fighting tears while discussing the "emotional year" that threatened to tear her family apart.

But Catelynn and Tyler survived, in part thanks to their love for one another.

Yes, Ryan's recent bad behavior may make for more scandalous television, but thankfully TMOG viewers seem more interested in celebrating the casts' successes than in gawking at their misfortunes.

Catelynn Lowell Addresses Haters: Mental Illness Does NOT Make Me a Bad Mom!

Over the course of the past 18 months, Catelynn Lowell has checked into rehab three times.

Sadly, she's taken a fair bit of flak from insensitive fans as a result of her struggles with mental illness.

Catelynn Lowell with Pink Hair

While it certainly wasn't her intention when she first decided to seek help, Catelynn has become a sort of spokesperson for young mothers struggling with mental health issues.

Most have applauded Lowell for her willingness to share her struggle with Teen Mom OG fans.

But as is always the case in 2018, haters have come out of the woodwork with the apparent goal of raining on Lowell's parade.

Fortunately, Cate has no patience for their trash-talk:

“You’re not the only parent struggling with mental health issues," a Twitter user wrote this week.

Catelynn Lowell at MTV VMAs

"I am a single parent with mental health issues BUT, I still have to provide for my family and be there when my children need me.”

Catelynn was quick to clap back by pointing out that in seeking treatment, she was doing what was best for her family:

“I wasn’t ‘running away from my problems. I was FIXING them! Working HARD & getting on the right medication,” she tweeted.

“I wouldn’t wish this crap on my worst enemy! But I guess I’ll have haters no matter what! Just glad I got myself better and if ppl r mad then be mad I guess.”

Catelynn further confirmed that her health is on the upswing these days by posting the photo below on Instagram:

Catelynn Lowell, Tyler Baltierra on Instagram

“I love you so much!!!" she captioned the pic, in apparent tribute to her husband, Tyler Baltierra.

"And for all you haters vows say —in SICKNESS and in health . . . remember that . . . Because this man has done that for me beyond what could imagine.”

We're sure Catelyn understands the frustrations of moms who are struggling but can't afford in-patient treatment.

But at the end of the day, she's making no apologies for taking steps to ensure her own health and the happiness of her husband and daughter.

Teen Mom OG Recap: One Life to Live

Last night on Teen Mom OG Season 5 Episode 18, the season finale, Maci Bookout learned that her ex, Ryan Edwards, is expecting.

She discovered this only through their son Bentley, however, and that wasn't even the biggest Edwards bombshell to come.

If you watch Teen Mom OG online, you know that Ryan and his new wife Mackenzie have been up against it from the beginning.

With the news that Mackenzie Standifer is pregnant came joy, but obvious trepidation among fans concerned for his well being.

Ryan, after all, has a serious drug problem.

Obviously, with this in mind, Maci wasn’t too thrilled about the news, given his addiction history and performance as a dad so far.

Bookout told her mother that not her problem and it’s Ryan’s issue to deal with. Maybe so, but it's now Mackenzie's as well ...

Ryan Edwards: A Photo

Ryan allegedly fell asleep on their way home from somewhere, bringing back memories of driving high to their wedding last year.

Once they got home, Edwards said he was sick of Mackenzie always bothering him. Then he threw out a ridiculous suggestion:

That they “separate for none months” until she gives birth to their baby, because her recent “behavior” is due to her pregnancy.

You can't make this stuff up, people.

It remains to be seen if they went through with this, but reports indicate that pregnant Mackenzie dumped Ryan after his arrest ...

Meanwhile, Catelynn Lowell came home from rehab only to decide just a few days later that she wasn't ready and needed to go back.

The poor girl is struggling so much.

Specifically, she did not trust herself handling her medications, and felt she had to be in a treatment facility for suicidal thoughts.

Suffering from severe anxiety, she was adamant about returning to Arizona, rather than seeking outpatient help in Michigan.

Tyler Baltierra was a bit puzzled by her decision, along with her assertion that her young daughter “can manage” with her gone.

Tyler did not care for that comment.

For now, he's supporting her and doing the best he can to help her hold the family together. But that is an increasingly big task.

In Indiana, Amber Portwood continued to struggle with co-parenting after Leah made plans with a friend during "her" weekend.

At the same time, Andrew Glennon accepted a producing job in California - for two months, not long after their baby's delivery.

Amber seemed happy for him, which came as a bit of a surprise, and even hinted at a move to the Golden State in the future.

Tyler Baltierra: Is He Going to Rehab Next?!

Tyler Baltierra has struggled with his mental health for a long, long time.

Catelynn Lowell has problems of her own too, of course, and there's definitely a focus on hers on Teen Mom OG, but fans will know that Tyler hasn't had it easy, either.

He and Catelynn both grew up in the same kind of toxic environment, after all, and they both had a very hard time after placing their daughter for adoption when they were teenagers.

For the past few months, Tyler has been becoming more and more vocal about how bad things have gotten for him.

But are they so bad that he'll head off to a treatment center like Catelynn did?

1. A Rough Beginning

Tyler baltierra is mad
Tyler has always seemed close to his mother, Kim, but we can't really say the same for his father. Butch Baltierra has been in and out of prison for Tyler's entire life, and if he hasn't been in prison, he's been on some kind of probation.

2. The Truth Hurts

Tyler baltierra with butch
Butch even told Tyler once that he loved cocaine more than he loved him. Can you even imagine how damaging that must have been for Tyler?

3. A Suicide Attempt

An especially heartbreaking little tidbit about Tyler was that he tried to commit suicide when he was only 12 years old. This is very dark, but he said that he hung himself, and when he didn't die immediately he began having second thoughts and was able to get himself free from the noose.

4. Just Heartbreaking

Catelynn lowell and tyler baltierra image
He also met Catelynn when he was 12, and the two began dating. A few years later, she became pregnant, and they made the difficult decision to place the child for adoption so that she would have a better life than they could provide for her.

5. Too, Too Sad

Tyler baltierra and catelynn lowell photo
In what many people consider to be the most heartbreaking moment on all of Teen Mom, Tyler and Catelynn both cried after their first daughter was born, and they begged nurses to take her away so they didn't become too attached.

6. After Carly

Cate lowell and tyler baltierra
In the years after being 16 and Pregnant, Catelynn and Tyler had many ups and downs. They got engaged, they got un-engaged, they nearly broke up after she lied to him about some other guy she'd been talking to. They started jobs, they talked about career goals, he went to New Orleans for a while to try to be an actor.

Catelynn Lowell to Tyler Baltierra: Why Don’t You Just Divorce Me?!

Over the course of the past year, Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra have endured challenges that would put any marriage to the test.

Catelynn suffered a miscarriage that exacerbated existing mental health problems for both her and Tyler.

Lowell checked into rehab three times, and while she says the treatment helped, there's no quick fix for mental illness.

Now, she and Tyler are coping with the challenges of addressing their ailments while still attending to the needs of their daughter - and their marriage.

And as Teen Mom OG fans were reminded this week, it hasn't been an easy process:

1. Happier Times

Catelynn lowell tyler baltierra selfie
Despite their painful pasts, Catelynn and Tyler were regarded as one of the Teen Mom franchise's most stable couples for several years. Unfortunately, the Baltierras have fallen on hard times in recent months.

2. Catelynn's Heartbreak

Last year, Catelynn suffered a miscarriage after months of trying to conceive. The tragic loss sent her into a downward spiral that resulted in multiple hosptalizations.

3. Suicidal Ideation

At one point, Catelynn checked herself in for treatment after telling fans she had been contemplating suicide. In the months since, she's become a role model for young people struggling with mental illness.

4. Tyler Steps Up

Catelynn's husband has been widely praised for supporting her emotionally and assuming more parenting duties during this difficult time, despite struggling with mental health issues of his own.

5. Ups and Downs

The Baltierras are currently working together to climb out of a very deep pit. But as the latest Teen Mom OG preview reminds us the process of battling mental illness is a lengthy one with many ups and downs.

6. A Difficult Admission

“It’s super hard for me to tell you this thing so keep an open mind,” Catelynn told Tyler in the clip. “I started having really bad anxiety in the mornings. I guess I’ve just been hiding it."

Catelynn Lowell & Tyler Baltierra to Fans: Learn From Our Pain!

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra have had quite a year.

There may have been more ups and downs in the past 12 months, but the beloved Teen Mom OG couple deserves praise for consistently turning negatives into positives.

Unfortunately, the most noteworthy recent development for the young couple is a tragic one:

Catelynn suffered a miscarriage, and the trauma of the event took a tremendous psychological toll on both her and her husband.

Lowell checked into rehab to be treated for various mental health issues in the aftermath of that shocking loss.

Clearly, it's difficult to find any sort of silver lining in such a painful series of events, but it does seem as though Cate and Tyler have both emerged from the wreckage with a better understanding of their minds' inner workings.

And fortunately for fans, the Baltierras are seeking out ways to share what they've learned with the world:

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra Snuggles

As The Ashley's Reality Roundup points out, Catelynn and Tyler appeared on Kailyn Lowry's podcast this week, where they discussed a wide array of topics, including their plans to help fans who are coping with issues similar to their own.

"We’re talking to MTV and trying to come up with a couple different pitches for a mental health special,” Tyler said.

“Ironically ‘Teen Mom’ has had a lot of mental health [issues] that have been covered on a lot of the stories. We really want to do a public thing, possibly with Dr. Drew [Pinsky].

"The hard part is crafting a message and making it be genuine and not just trying to cash in on this thing we’ve got going on,” Baltierra added.

As for her struggles with PTSD and depression, Catelynn said she's turned a corner as of late:

“I feel way better,” Cate said.

“I did a whole med switch and genetic testing. I found out that the medication I was on for five years doesn’t even work for me."

She added:

"They put me on different medications and they seem to be working really well. It all stems from the trauma of my past so I’m going to have to keep digging into that.”

And it seems Cate and Tyler feel they're both in a position where they can turn their attention to helping others.

As longtime Teen Mom OG fans know, the couple made the difficult decision to place their youngest daughter, Carlee, up for adoption before she was born back in 2009.

While they still believe they did what was best for their baby, the decision has clearly caused the couple a good deal of pain over the years, as they've struggled to maintain a relationship with Carlee, despite the fact that they're not her legal guardians.

Now, Catelynn and Tyler are hoping to channel that pain into a second children's book, this one focusing on the unique challenges faced by adopted children.

“Me and Catelynn have been talking lately about doing an adoption book for kids who are adoptees and for kids who have siblings that have been adopted,” Tyler said.

“I think it would be cool to explain to the kids, in their language, how [adoption] works.”

Michael Abraham: Tyler Baltierra Lies! I Never Tried to Kick His Ass!

Last week, Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra appeared on Kailyn Lowry's Coffee Convos podcast for a surprisingly candid interview that touched on a wide range of topics.

The portions in which Catelynn and Tyler discussed their desire to have another baby rightfully received the most attention, but there were plenty of gems hidden throughout the episode.

Tyler Baltierra Is Mad

Take for example, Tyler's account of his fight with Michael Abraham, father of former Teen Mom OG star and A-list cam girl, Farrah Abraham.

After describing Farrah's family as "a whole different breed" (an apt statement, if ever there was one), Baltierra claimed that Michael challenged him to a physical fight on the set of a TMOG reunion special.

“Michael is actually a very interesting character,” Tyler said on the podcast.

“I never actually told anybody this but he physically got in my face and wanted to fight me about two reunions ago!”

Not one to take anything lying down (unless it's verbal abuse from his daughter, in which case, he smiles and asks for more), Michael issued a statement to The Ashley's Reality Roundup, in which he offered his side of the story:

Michael Abraham Photo

“The reason why Tyler ‘never actually told anyone’ is because it NEVER HAPPENED,” Michael wrote.

“Everyone knows that if that would have happened the production company and MTV would have aired it as a public relations stunt. The world knows that MTV films everything and everybody at all reunion shows.”

We hate to say it, as Michael is generally not to be trusted, but that's a pretty solid argument.

As for Tyler's claim that the on-set security pushed Michael onto a couch, Abraham says that scuffle only took place in Tyler's mind:

"I have NEVER been pushed down on a couch by security at any reunion show filming,” Michael wrote.

Tyler Baltierra Selfie

“The only time reunion security had to do anything with me physically was when they were protecting me during the time that Matt Baier attacked and assaulted me three reunion ago."

Ah, yes. Who could forget the famous Farrah vs. Amber fight?

It really wasn't all that long ago, so it's pretty funny that Michael is acting like it's just preposterous that anyone in his family would throw down in the presence of Dr. Drew.

Anyway, Killer Mike goes on to actually praise the Baltierras, and he claims that over the years, he's formed a close relationship with both Tyler and Catelynn.

"It’s a shame that Tyler and Cate have to make up stories like this,” Michael’s statement continued.

Tyler and Catelynn Post-Therapy

"The last time I was face-to-face with them I shook his hand and hugged her to mend our relationship after the strain that Matt’s assault on me caused between everyone on the show.

"I’ve also gone to the extent of complimenting him (Tyler) as being an excellent father this last year repeatedly on social media as he cared for Nova during the time Cate was in rehab.”

Michael concluded his lengthy commentary on the matter by claiming that he and Tyler are two peas in a pod.

We're guessing Ty won't be taking that as a compliment:

"Tyler and Cate’s dad Dave are just like me– we will do anything to love, care and protect our daughters,” Michael said.

Tyler Baltierra and Nova

“It’s so sad that even after we (Farrah and her family) have moved on and have wished everyone the very best, the hate from others continues and there is no valid reason for it."

He added:

"We are extremely happy and living our lives in a healthy and positive way, why can’t everyone else do the same?”

Hmm ... a surprisingly non-psychotic-sounding statement from a usually psychotic source.

Of course, Michael has successfully convinced himself that Farrah freakin' Abraham is an ideal daughter, so it's important to bear in mind that the man suffers from some pretty severe delusions.

Teen Mom OG Recap: Call Me When He’s About Three, Babe!

When Mackenzie Standifer told husband Ryan Edwards that she was no longer on birth control on Monday night's Teen Mom OG, he ...

... reacted about like you'd imagine Ryan Edwards would.

When Teen Mom OG Season 5 Episode 17 kicked off, Ryan seemed happy about his new wife's decision ... at first. Not for long.

A little while later, she told him she wasn't feeling too well, and was really nervous to boot. He didn’t even look up from his phone.

She claimed (to a friend) that when she revealed she was pregnant to Ryan, he was “so excited he couldn’t contain himself.”

Yet when she spoke to Edwards later about how much work they had to do to prepare for the child's arrival, he responded:

“Yeah, call me when he’s about three.”

Ryan Edwards Closeup

Suffice it to say, she was not overjoyed.

“That’s a d--k thing to say,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ryan's ex Maci Bookout and her husband Taylor McKinney considered adopting another baby to expand their family.

Whenever Maci thought about getting pregnant again, she became consumed with the memory of her tragic recent miscarriage.

Already the mother of three - Bentley, with Ryan, and Jayde and Maverick, with Taylor - she decided to research the adoption option.

What did she find out?

Mackenzie Standifer with Ryan Edwards

Well, WE found out that the couple weren't interested as much in a baby or a toddler, but an older child that needed a good home!

They also learned, and we learned as a result, that given the way the process worked, the next 2-3 years worked best for them.

That will be exciting!

Elsewhere if you watch Teen Mom OG online, you'll see Catelynn Lowell finish her final week in treatment ... at least this round.

Poor Cate has been in and out of rehab for mental health battles for months, and we give her so much credit for her resolve.

Tyler and Catelynn Post-Therapy

Her husband, Tyler Baltierra, certainly knows a lot about the subject; Tyler and his sister, Amber, went to visit their father Butch.

Butch is also in rehab for his own reasons.

Amber and Tyler were both extremely emotional about seeing him, particularly after he revealed that he's doing a lot better lately.

“It’s a wonderful feeling. It’s something I’ve never felt before,” Butch said. “I couldn’t be more grateful for anything in my life or anyone."

"This is only the beginning.”

Here's hoping.
