We have our first look at Greta Gerwig‘s highly-anticipated Little Women adaptation, and it is DREAMY!
The upcoming film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott‘s classic 1868 novel features some real star power, including Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, and Laura Dern.
Ch-ch-check out the first trailer (above) and get the deets (below)!
Ronan stars as Jo, the second-eldest of the March sisters, and Watson stars as Meg, the eldest. Dern will play their mother, Marnee March, and Streep is the rich and old-fashioned Aunt March.
Rising stars Eliza Scanlen of HBO‘s Sharp Objects, and Florence Pugh of Midsommar play younger sisters Beth and Amy, respectively. Chalamet will star opposite Ronan (again) as her neighbor and love interest, Laurie.
Both Saoirse and Timothée starred in Lady Bird together, also directed by Gerwig, as love interests. And we’ve already seen Meryl and Dern together onscreen for Big Little Lies, so we can only assume the chemistry will carry over between them for the new movie!
In a monologue at the end of the trailer, Jo says:
“Women have minds and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they’ve got ambition, and they’ve got talent, as well as just beauty. I’m so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for, I’m so sick of it!”
This novel may have been written in 1868, but it seems totally fitting for 2019!
The 36-year-old Lady Bird director shared (below) with People and EW what it was like crafting the first trailer for the flick, set in post-Civil War Massachusetts:
“We wanted it to feel like the movie feels, which is both classical and fresh. But it’s really about these characters and these relationships that have meant so much to me. And then it’s also infused with this mutual energy and this exuberance. And I think that that’s what the actors brought to the film and that’s what cinematography captured.”
Gerwig continued (below):
“We wanted it to feel light on its feet. And even though it does take place in the 19th Century we in no way wanted it to feel like it was something that was past. We wanted it to feel like it was present right now.”
Are U excited to see this movie, Perezcious readers? Seems like the perfect Christmas Day release! Sound OFF (below) in the comments with all your thoughts on the first trailer!
