Now that we are in the season of ‘New Year New Me’ Jillian Michaels suggests thinking twice before taking on the keto diet.
While Jenna Jameson and Halle Berry are on the keto bandwagon does that mean you really should be? Jillian Michaels thinks not. In fact, the fitness expert says it’s a “bad plan for a million reasons.
This ketogenic diet encourages users to be on an extremely low-carb and high fat eating plan. So basically, all fats are welcome, even bacon and butter– oh, and you’re also guaranteed to never starve!
Sounds good to me! But, Michaels says this is all wrong.
In fact, she laughs at the plan in a women’s health video and even mocks a keto diet supporter saying, “you know what we need to do? All fat and animal protein! Ding, ding, ding!"
Michaels argues that it simply does not provide the important nutrients needed to advance a healthy lifestyle.
"Your cells, your macro molecules, are literally made up of protein, fat, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, she says. “When you do not eat one of the three macro nutrients – those three things I just mentioned – you’re starving your cells.
This trendy diet is all about removing carbs, which Michaels says are “actually not the devil. (phew)
The Keto diet wasn't even initially designed as a tool to lose weight, but rather to help neurological diseases, such as epilepsy, we learn from Healthline.
Though Michaels opinions sounds reasonable and fair, she has been receiving a ton of backlash for her position on the diet. Especially from Today anchor, Al Roker and Bravo host, Andy Cohen.
Roker, who has been on the diet since September took to twitter to rant, “So @JillianMIchaels, says #Keto is a bad idea," Al wrote. "This from a woman who promoted on camera bullying, deprivation, manipulation and more weekly in the name of weight loss. Now those sound like bad ideas."
Cohen also chimed in with some not so nice thoughts on his segment of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen claiming “tonight’s ‘Jackhole of the Day’ goes to Jillian Michaels, who slammed the keto diet as an awful diet, he said. “Don’t feel bad, keto diet. A lot of people think Jillian Michaels is a bad idea.
Ouch! All this arguing is making me hungry...
So, who is right? Well, that is up to you to decide.
Although, women’s health magazine also supports Michael’s stance saying, “the diet could have some pretty distinct downsides. Eating lots of saturated fats versus healthy unsaturated fats, could raise your cholesterol levels.
Sonya Angelone, R.D., a spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics previously told Women’s Health, “the diet is not going to support good bones, a healthy brain, heart, colon, or gut.
She pushes the importance of a healthy balanced life and urges “do not go keto. Just work out, eat clean and don’t overeat." she says, "I promise you, it’s that simple.â€Â
