Truly the end of an era in morning/daytime television in this country!!!

On Tuesday, Kathie Lee Gifford sent out an internal memo over at the Today show studios in NYC — and then announced live on air alongside co-host Hoda Kotb — that she’ll be leaving the show in April after 11 years on air.

In the email, sent to NBC staffers on the show and in New York, Gifford revealed that she only intended to spend one year on the show, rather than more than a decade, as she wrote (below):

“In 2008, I joined the ‘Today Show’ family intending to spend one year. But something unexpected happened along the way: I fell in love with a beautiful, talented, extraordinary Egyptian goddess named Hoda, and an amazing group of individuals who work tirelessly and joyfully at their jobs, many of them starting at midnight, creating an unprecedented four hours of live television … I stayed year after year making a million memories with people I will never forget. I leave ‘Today’ with a grateful heart but I’m truly excited for this new creative season in my life. Many thanks to all the wonderful people who made the years fly by.”

Classy!

Then, later, she went on air next to Hoda and announced the news to her audience, as you can see (below):

Awwww!

For what it’s worth, Kathie Lee will stay on until sometime after the morning show’s next anniversary, on April 7, 2019 — giving them plenty of time to test out new hosts and think about how to move the format along.

What do U think of this news, Perezcious readers?! Will you miss her banter back and forth with Hoda???
