Camila Morrone is trying to make a name for herself — without her famous boyfriend’s help!
The 22-year-old actress spoke at length to the Los Angeles Times in a new interview this week, opening up about her now nearly two-year-long relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio, the famous couple’s notoriously large age gap (at 45, he’s 23 years older!), and her desire to strike out on her own, a film career away from his notorious A-list image.
Morrone is currently promoting her own new movie, Mickey and the Bear, and has already gotten quite a bit of critical acclaim for her work. So it appears she’s got some acting chops, after all!
But the actress and model is still sensitive to talk about her relationship with the Titanic legend, admitting to the newspaper it’s “frustrating” to have her identity so completely tied up into who she’s dating:
“I think more and more now that people are seeing the film, I’m slowly getting an identity outside of [her relationship with DiCaprio]. Which is frustrating, because I feel like there should always be an identity besides who you’re dating. I understand the association, but I’m confident that will continue to slip away and be less of a conversation.”
Hey, if she continues to play in critically-acclaimed roles — especially as her movies hopefully become more and more commercially successful, too — she’ll certainly have a shot to build her own identity beyond who she’s seeing.
But until then, surely she must understand why it’s so much of a direct connection between her and the Oscar-winning star of The Revenant, rather than her (relatively light, so far) body of work, right?!
Speaking of Leo, Camila also addressed the couple’s multi-decade age gap with the newspaper, as well. She was short and sweet about it, saying:
“There’s so many relationships in Hollywood — and in the history of the world — where people have large age gaps. I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date.”
That’s true! And a fair point… if both parties are consenting and of-age, hey, who cares if there’s an age gap, so long as they enjoy spending time together, ya know?!
Age is just a number, right?
What do U think, Perezcious readers: does Camila make the good (obvious) point about dating with an age gap? And more innerestingly for this one… will she ever get out from under the “Leo’s girlfriend” label and make a name for herself outside of the A-list star??
