Joyous news out of London this morning!
After enduring months of rumors and speculation during the most high-profile pregnancy in recent memory, Meghan Markle has officially welcomed a baby boy!
Details are scarce at this time, but sources confirm that mother and son are resting comfortably.
The as-yet-unnamed prince entered the world at 5:26 am on the morning of May 6, weighing in at 7 lbs, 3 oz.
Prince Harry has informed reporters that he and Meghan are "still thinking about names."
Meghan and Prince Harry shared news of the birth with fans via their official Instagram page:
"We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz," the couple wrote.
The news was not entirely unexpected, as in the wee hours of Monday morning, Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming that Meghan was in labor.
“The Duchess went into labour in the early hours of this morning," the statement read.
"The Duke of Sussex was by Her Royal Highnesses’ side. An announcement will be made soon."
Throughout the Duchess of Sussex's first pregnancy, she and Harry kept a relatively low profile.
Details such as Meghan's due date were kept under wraps for security reasons, and she and Harry remained tight-lipped on such matters as the child's gender and name.
Now that the little prince has arrived, however, it seems Harry simply can't keep his joy to himself:
"How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we're both absolutely thrilled," he told reporters waiting outside the hospital.
"It was amazing, absolutely incredible, and as I said, I’m so incredibly proud of my wife," Harry added.
He went on to reveal that the royal tyke is even more adorable than expected, saying:
"And as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing but this little thing is absolutely to die for."
In the days to come, Meghan will no doubt re-emerge into the spotlight and face more rumors about the baby's name and whether or not she and Harry are moving to Africa.
But for now, all she has to do is take care of herself and her little bundle of joy -- and bask in the glory of new motherhood.
Our sincere congrats go out to one of our very favorite families.
