Woman & Her Dog Killed In Fire — After Boyfriend Trapped Her In Storage Unit

A woman and her dog suffered a truly horrifying fate after being locked in a storage unit by her boyfriend.

Morgan Kay Harris was locked inside the Murray, Utah storage unit by her boyfriend, Alexander Wardell. The 30-year-old suspect told police that he intentionally left his girlfriend and her dog Huck inside the CubeSmart Self Storage unit, before closing the door and placing a lock on it Saturday afternoon. He then fled the area on foot, according to authorities.

However, soon after Wardell left, the unit caught on fire with Morgan and her dog still locked inside. According to a police affidavit, the fire spread to six surrounding units in the complex before firefighters arrived at the scene at around 5:00 p.m., extinguishing the flames and prying open the locked door. Unfortunately, it was too late, and the 27-year-old and her dog were found burned to death.

As of now, it’s unclear why exactly Wardell locked his girlfriend in the storage unit, and the cause of the fire remains unknown. However, we have to say, the two events happening back to back doesn’t exactly seem like coincidence…

Wardell was charged with negligent homicide and kidnapping and booked into Salt Lake City County Jail Saturday night, according to authorities. Apparently, he had just been released from jail for a probation violation one day prior to the incident, according to KUTV. The probation charge stemmed from a third degree aggravated assault and criminal mischief conviction — he beat his ex-girlfriend with a golf club and threatened her with a knife back in December 2018.

At the time, he spent 220 days in jail, before pleading guilty in exchange for a 36-month probation sentence, according to the outlet. In the years since, he’s violated said probation numerous times — at one point even being caught with a deadly weapon. In August of last year, his probation officer recommended the courts revoke his probation, and order his original prison sentence of five years. Sadly, the recommendation was not followed, and now an innocent girl and her dog have suffered a horrific death because of his actions. See more (below):

On behalf of the 27-year-old victim’s family, police released the following statement:

“Our daughter, Morgan Kay Harris, was always known for her sweet, shy, and kind temperament, being a deep thinker with amazing artistic abilities and always having an infectious giggle. She was a beautiful model and makeup artist and a successful medical assistant. Just recently starting a new job in the Draper area she was excited about. She loved her dog, Huck, who passed with her. Leaving behind her parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews whom she adored. We are devastated at the loss of our daughter and appreciate the love and support from the community but ask for your privacy at this time as we maneuver through the unimaginable.”

A GoFundMe has been set up in her name, which you can visit HERE.

Our hearts are with the Harris family and all of Morgan’s loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time. Rest in peace to a soul gone far too soon.
