As both Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey lamented on The Bachelorette one week ago, they may have made a grave mistake.
By allowing the suitors to only focus on the one woman with whom they feel the strongest connection… the show has handed nearly all power over to the men.
They’re the ones who get to decide now. They’re the ones who have control over roses and dates and romantic futures and all that.
And on Monday night?
Rachel in particular was affected by this format change.
Windey, for her part, got off to a strong start on the latest installment of the franchise, giving a rose to her one-on-one date, Jason Alabaster.
But Rachel broke down after she invited her suitors to watch the ICU nurse’s group date.
She just felt so unwanted.
“Gabby’s guys are professing these feelings for her and giving her these speeches and the whole time, no one can make eye contact with me,” Rachel said as the men watched Gabby’s men fight on the group date.
“As much as Gabby was having a moment with her guys, I wanted to have a moment with mine…
“After the last rose ceremony, watching man after man reject me, I think everyone should have been trying so hard to have a moment with me.”
It was hard not to feel awful for the aspiring wife.
Rachel continued on air:
“It really just does feel like a big insecurity that continues to reveal itself.
“The wanting to have someone who makes you feel like you’re the only person here and they’re 100 percent invested in you.”
Rachel noted that she simply has “no idea” where her suitors stand. Just SO frustrating!
“At this point, I want to feel chosen. I’m not here to beg these guys to act like they want me. I’m so over feeling like this,” Rachel admitted.
“I don’t know why I feel more insecure, more desperate on the side of being the Bachelorette than the side of being a contestant on Clayton’s season, truly.
“He made me feel more wanted than these guys make me feel. It hurts your feelings because you’re supposed to be the only thing they care about.
“I feel like Gabby’s guys get it.”
Yikes, huh? That comment says a lot.
Both Rachel and Gabby advanced to Clayton’s final three on The Bachelor last year; both slept with him, too.
But then each got screwed over by Echard after he realized he had a chance with another woman and each bonded over being rudely sent him at the same time by Clayton.
And now here is Rachel on her own season, saying she felt more desires by that loser than any of her current contestants.
Rachel subsequently confronted the fellas and made it clear she was upset.
During her group date, she felt they brought more effort and hoped her concerns were behind her, giving Tyler Norris the group date rose.
The relief was short-lived, however, as Logan Palmer realized he may like Gabby more than Rachel.
During the first group date of the episode, he confessed:
“It’s the first time I’ve seen Gabby in a while and it definitely brought up some old feelings.”
After the cocktail party got canceled, Logan accepted Rachel’s final rose — but emphasized the theme of a rough night by telling camera that he feels “selfish” and like the “bad guy” since he’s still thinking about Gabby.
Poor Rachel.
Thankfully, based on these Bachelorette spoilers, we know she does find a few guys to consider strongly for marriage this season.
