New details have come out about Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss‘ death.

As we’ve reported, news broke on Wednesday that The Ellen DeGeneres Show DJ had passed away at the age of 40 on Tuesday. His wife, Allison Holker, reportedly reached out to the police, saying her husband had left home without his car, which was unlike him. Law enforcement later received a call about a shooting in a hotel and discovered Stephen dead. While his death is under investigation at this time, TMZ reported that he died by suicide. Allison confirmed his death in a statement to People, expressing:

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us. Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”

She continued:

“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt. I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children. Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”

Just heartbreaking.

Now, more information was revealed about the moments leading up to the tragedy. TMZ reported the So You Think You Can Dance star checked into a motel less than one mile from his home in Los Angeles on Monday morning. Staff members shared with the outlet that Stephen booked a room for one night and only had a small bag with him. The employees also noted that he did not appear to be upset or in distress when he checked into the establishment.

However, the hip-hop dancer missed his checkout time the next day, so the staffers went to his room. That is when they found Stephen dead in the bathroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The workers claimed no one heard any gunshots – which they mentioned is possible since the motel is made up of separate units. Paramedics were called at around 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday and pronounced Stephen dead at the scene.

Such a devastating loss. We continue to keep Allison and their three children in our thoughts during this difficult time.
