Bruce Willis’ daughters are feeling a wave of emotions right now.
After her family revealed the 67-year-old actor’s frontotemporal dementia diagnosis, Scout Willis took to Instagram Stories on Friday and opened up to her followers about how she’s been struggling emotionally with the situation. Despite feeling drained at this time, she also expressed how grateful she is for everyone’s support at this time. Scout wrote:
“Feeling emotionally tired and a bit overwhelmed, yet also very in awe of the love so many people have for my papa.”
It’s understandable that the 31-year-old is “overwhelmed” after getting a such tough update on her father’s health. And Scout wasn’t the only one feeling that way. Her sisters Rumer and Tallulah Willis backed her sentiments. Tallulah first re-shared Scout’s post, adding her own message that read:
“Second this Scouter feeling the abundant love for our guy and our family”

Rumer then followed up on her Story, saying:
“I third this Scouter and [Tallulah] feeling so deeply grateful and in awe of the love for us and our sweet Daddio.”
As we previously reported, Bruce’s family revealed on Thursday that since his initial diagnosis of aphasia, the Die Hard star’s condition has advanced to frontotemporal dementia. They wrote on Instagram:
“Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”
His family then provided more information about the diagnosis on The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration‘s website, saying:
“FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone. For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know. Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead. As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research.”
In case you didn’t know, FTD affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain – which regulates a person’s personality, speech, and emotions. The disease makes parts of the lobes atrophy, causing someone to experience personality changes, obsessive behavior, and difficulty speaking.
The Willis family then noted that if Bruce could, he would want to take time to bring “global attention and a connectedness with those who are also dealing with this debilitating disease and how it impacts so many individuals and their families.” They concluded their statement by saying:
“Bruce has always found joy in life — and has helped everyone he knows to do the same. It has meant the world to see that sense of care echoed back to him and to all of us. We have been so moved by the love you have all shared for our dear husband, father, and friend during this difficult time. Your continued compassion, understanding, and respect will enable us to help Bruce live as full a life as possible.”
Such a heartbreaking update. We cannot imagine how difficult this must be for Rumer, Tallulah, Scout, and the rest of their family — their mom Demi Moore, their stepmom Emma Hemming Willis, and younger sisters, Mabel and Evelyn.
