Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves McConaughey had quite the scare this week!
On Thursday, the 41-year-old model revealed she and her husband were on board the Lufthansa flight that was hit by severe turbulence while flying over Tennessee – sending the plane into a freefall at one point. OMG!!! The Germany-bound flight was forced to land at Dulles International Airport in Virginia. As you may have heard if you’ve seen this story, seven people were injured and hospitalized. What a scary situation!

Later on, Camila took to Instagram to share a video showing the cabin in complete disarray, with bread rolls, napkins, and more strewn across the floor. She also detailed the couple’s harrowing experience in the caption of the clip, recalling how their plane dropped nearly 4,000 feet:
“On Flight last night,I was told plane dropped almost 4000 feet, 7 people went to the hospital, Everything was flying everywhere. To respect the privacy of those around me that’s all I am showing but the plane was a CHAOS And the turbulence keep on coming. The @lufthansa flight you are seeing on the news today!!!! Yes…that one. Thank God everyone was safe and ok.”
Camila then continued to thank the hotel near the airport for the last-minute accommodations, saying:
“I must say everyone @marriottbonvoy by the airport of Washington where we had to divert to and spend the night was so kind! @officiallymcconaughey and I made it to the bar with 1 minute before closing…slept well, getting on new flight today, To the journey I continue… Karin Lacy was a savior with me until 1am working on new flights!!!”
We’re glad to hear that both Camila and Matthew are safe, and we hope those injured on the flight have a speedy recovery! This must have been terrifying for everyone on board!
Unfortunately, the trip did not end there for Camila, and she had to get on another flight — which was also expected to experience some turbulence — on Thursday. Oh no! It’s unknown whether or not Matthew was on this plane too. She said in a video on Instagram Stories:
“Just my luck. After last night, I just got on the rescheduled flight, and the pilot’s saying we have a 45-minute turbulence getting out of Washington [DC]. Just my luck. Wish me luck.”
Hopefully, that flight wasn’t as chaotic as the first part of the trip! Reactions, Perezcious readers? Let us know in the comments below!
