Former American Idol contestant Sara Beth Liebe is way over the drama with judge Katy Perry!
For those who didn’t see recall, the whole mess started when Sara revealed during her audition that she was a 25-year-old mother to three kids. The 38-year-old singer joked the aspiring musician had “been laying on the table too much.” The remark quickly sparked backlash on social media, prompting Sara to speak out about the situation on TikTok last month. She said at the time:
“It was embarrassing to have that on TV, and it was hurtful and that’s that. I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mom shaming is super lame and I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom and it’s hard enough to be a woman. … Nobody deserves to feel crappy about that. … If you’re a good mama and you love your babies, that’s all that really matters, and other comments just don’t feel necessary.”
So true. Despite the awkward moment between Sara and Katy during the audition, she ended up making it through to Hollywood week. But after wowing the judges and her competitors with her version of The Police‘s Roxanne, she unexpectedly decided to quit the competition. Her reason? Sara told Katy, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie she “needed to be with my babies” right now.

While Katy attempted to convince Sara to stay in the competition, the momma did not change her mind and left. Since the shocking moment aired, viewers have questioned whether Sara really left the show because of her anger over Katy’s mom-shaming comment — or if she was just using the drama to gain some extra attention as she continues to make music.
But now Sara is setting the record straight! She took to Instagram Stories on Tuesday to tell everyone she was so done with the drama with the California Girls artist. In fact, she clarified that she’s not even upset with Katy! As for her decision to quit American Idol? Sara also insisted it was “not a ploy,” and she did not use “the show for 15 minutes of fame.” She explained at the time:
“I don’t even know how to go about addressing some of this s**t at this point because if I don’t say something everybody gets mad and wants to know what I had to say and then when I say something everybody gets mad and thinks I’m using it for 15 minutes of fame or whatever the hell everyone is saying. … I don’t even have anything else to say on this matter. I’m not even mad. If you watch my videos, you’d know that I’m not even mad. I’m just trying to do music. I did not ask for any of this to happen. This was not a ploy on my end. Like this is ridiculous. I’m so over it. No more.”
However, it seemed she wasn’t entirely moving on from what happened on the show – and no, we are not talking about the mom-shaming debacle. She later took a moment in another Story to call out the show for “editing out three standing ovations” she received for one of her performances. So Sara’s not exactly over everything! LOLz.
