Johnny Depp’s First Wife Says She Was ‘Terrified’ He’d Lose ‘Horrific’ Amber Heard Trial

Johnny Depp’s first wife is breaking her silence on his defamation trial against Amber Heard, and she is firmly on his side.

In a rare new interview on the Popcorned Planet podcast on Tuesday night, Lori Allison opened up about what it was like to watch the “horrific” court case between the feuding exes.

As Perezcious readers know, in 2018, the Aquaman actress spoke out about domestic violence in a Washington Post op-ed, causing a ton of continued backlash for the Pirates of the Caribbean lead. This followed their 2016 divorce, in which she initially, famously accused him of abuse. Following the WP piece, he sued her for defamation and they both appeared in court last year for a lengthy trial. It was widely televised — and while some fans were eager to see every minute of the show-down, Johnny’s ex-wife wasn’t exactly one of them — she was too stressed out!

When asked how she felt seeing “she who shall not be named making all these accusations and putting [Johnny] through the wringer,” Lori recalled her own interactions with Amber, saying:

“I had met her before, I’d been to parties at his house and she seemed really nice and she was gorgeous and what’s not to love? But as the time went by and I would hear things about her — she who shall not be named — he didn’t seem too happy all the time. I didn’t see him a lot so I can’t really say. The things that affected me more were the things he said in court – I probably broke down several times because I felt really bad for him.”

We can imagine it was an extra challenging trial to watch if you knew either of them personally. On her opinion of the trial, she added:

“He’s very private – which is why I don’t do interviews – and I think for him to come out so wholeheartedly was what he really needed to do. I thought it was either going to be an epic train wreck or it was going to go really well.”

The 65-year-old then seemed to reference Isaac Baruch, one of the musician’s closets friends who also testified on his behalf, noting:

“I would call Isaac sometimes and go ‘what’s happening, is he ok?’ And he said ‘don’t worry we’re going to win this’ and I would literally hang up the phone and walk around crying because I was terrified for him.”

Of course, Johnny did come out victorious. A Virginia jury sided with him and awarded him $10.35 million in damages (though he was also required to pay her $2 million for things his attorney said during the battle). Both filed appeals, but they managed to settle the case before heading to court again. In December, it was revealed the Fantastic Beasts alum asked Amber to fork over $1 million as opposed to the $8 million she owed because he wasn’t in it for the money, per a People source.

Lori is definitely not over everything Amber put Johnny through (in her eyes), though. She went on to share a HOT TAKE on how she would’ve dealt with Amber if she could’ve:

“I think [losing the trial] would’ve killed him, well maybe not, but it just broke my heart that somebody could do that to him. I’m no angel, I’ve done my share of s**tty things to people but what she did was absolutely horrific and if there were things that I could do to her that were legal I would do them! I would.”

Damn!

That shows you how strongly she feels about both Amber and Johnny! Speaking of, despite calling things off with Johnny in 1985 after two years of marriage due to irreconcilable differences, she’s clearly still fond of him. She went on:

“He’s really generous, he has the biggest heart of someone I’ve ever met. I love him to pieces and I get all goofy-eyed when I think about him and his future, our past. I want nothing but the best for him and I hope he feels the same about me! Can I say bad things about him? I can say bad things about everybody but there’s no reason to. He makes normal mistakes like other people do. But again he’s generous, kind and I can’t wait to be in a room with him again because I love to give him hugs.”

Whoa! Interesting to hear another ex’s perspective on this. Hear her full interview (below):
