Len Goodman may have known what fate had in store for him.
Days after the legendary dance judge passed away from bone cancer in Kent, England, an old interview has resurfaced in which he seemingly predicted his own death. Speaking with DailyMail.com back in December, the former professional ballroom dancer reflected on his late father’s passing and forecasted a similar demise for himself as he approached the same age. He explained:
“My dad had the right idea. He loved gardening and he had a stroke while he was out in the garden. He was 79 so if I go the way of my dad, that’ll be next year.”
SO eerie! We mean, Len was literally just three days short of turning 79 when he sadly passed earlier this week.

At the time of the interview, Len had just retired as head judge on Dancing with the Stars. He explained the move came so he could spend more time with his wife Sue, whom he’d been married to since 2012, as well as his granddaughter, Alice, 7, and grandson, Jack, 4. He playfully told the interviewer, Jenny Johnston, to write in his obituary:
“‘He was a dance teacher from Dartford who got lucky.’ Because that’s just about the truth of it.”
As we reported, the Strictly Come Dancing judge passed away in hospice surrounded by family after a battle with bone cancer. His manager, Jackie Gill, told BBC on Monday:
“It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78. A much-loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.”

Prior to bone cancer, Len had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009, which was treated with surgery. Over 10 years later in 2021, the late star faced facial melanoma, for which he had an additional surgery. He reflected on his ailments in his interview with Daily Mail:
“I don’t make a fuss about stuff like that. It’s like when you have a car — you keep it serviced but even so, you’ll have some trouble with your carburettor and you’ll need to get it fixed, and eventually the whole thing will conk out, and there you go. It’s more about the journey, and mine has been lovely.”
Maybe Len knew he had just a fixed time left on this earth, and that interview was his way of subtly preparing the world. Any way you put it, it’s pretty chilling that his prediction was so accurate. Rest in peace, Len.
