Hailey Bieber sparked a debate amongst fans after breaking a major rule at Stephanie Shepherd‘s wedding.

The 26-year-old Rhode Skin founder and her husband Justin Bieber were just two of the many celebrities on the guestlist when Kim Kardashian‘s former personal assistant exchanged vows with Larry Jackson last Saturday (June 24).

As photos began to emerge, Hailey‘s choice of outfit was met with some pushback from a subset of fans.

Hailey‘s broken rule? The star wore a white (or nearly white) gown to the wedding.

Sharing some photos of her look on Instagram, Hailey modeled the slinky dress with long sleeves, a turtle neck and a body baring cutout in the back.

Some fans rushed to the comments section to debate the choice.

“Babygirl, you don’t wear white to a wedding EVER,” one concerned fan commented. Others responded, arguing that she was in fact wearing a very light shade of icy blue. However, that wasn’t enough for some.

“You don’t wear any color close to white (pale blue, pale pink… anything that might look entirely white on pictures),” someone replied.

Other appeared to be equally confused by the decision.

However, Cosmopolitan pointed out that there might be an explanation. The outlet mused that a dress code might have been recommended that had people wearing monochromatic outfits. Many other stars at the event did wear black from head to toe, for instance.

Either way, it is generally thought to be poor taste to wear white to a wedding, since it’s what the bride normally wears.
