You need to be a minimum of 25 years old to become a member of Congress in the United States. However, there is no maximum age, and once you’re elected there are no term limits.
Because of that, many members of the Senate and House of Representatives have been serving for years and are older.
In fact, 19 of the 535 members of Congress across both bodies are older than 80, and The Washington Post reported that Congress is getting progressively older on average.
In 2023, the youngest member of Congress is Representative Maxwell Frost. He’s 64 years younger than the oldest member. Who is that and who else makes up the oldest population of our elected leaders?
We pulled together the 20 oldest members and put together the stats regarding which body of Congress they’re in and which political party they serve.
