Randall Park Says Hollywood Is Taking the Wrong Lessons From 'Barbie' Movie's Success

Randall Park is speaking out about Barbie.

The 49-year-old actor and Shortcomings director spoke out about Greta Gerwig‘s billion dollar-plus money making machine’s box office success in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Randall explained that he’s worried the “industry is taking the wrong lessons” from the movie’s performance.

“I feel like, just in general, this industry is taking the wrong lessons,” he said.

“For example, Barbie is this massive blockbuster, and the idea is: Make more movies about toys! No. Make more movies by and about women!”

His comments come as Mattel execs have confirmed over a dozen movie projects on the way, based on their various toys.

“At the outset, we’re not saying, ‘Okay, let’s think already about movie two and three.’ Let’s get the first one right and make that a success. And if you do that, opportunities open up very quickly, once you establish the first movie as a successful representation of a franchise on the big screen. Successful movies lend themselves to more movies. Our ambition is to create film franchises,” the CEO said about a potential Barbie sequel. Find out what else they said!
