Margot Robbie almost was part of the American Horror Story universe, but she didn’t end up landing the role.
The two-time Oscar-nominated actress was still a relatively unknown actress when she auditioned for a role in Asylum, the second season of the smash hit FX anthology series created by Ryan Murphy.
Casting director Eric Dawson is opening up about Margot‘s audition and how she “was such a star” in that room. At the time, she had only been in the ABC series Pan Am, which lasted just one season. Her breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street came in 2013.

“Margot has a lot of ‘it’ factors,” he told Backstage. “That’s the tough thing for casting directors who aren’t in the room [anymore] with actors. Margot is probably one of my favorite auditions of all time, and it was right before she broke out. She was such a star. It was crazy, her star appeal when she walked in the room. Even though she didn’t get that role, that was one of those things as a casting director where you go: This is a star, what do we do with her? Immediately, though, she was out of our realm of possibility of hiring. But that’s really the fun part of casting, is seeing the people whose careers are just rising.”
While Eric didn’t reveal which role Margot auditioned for, we’re going to guess it was for Grace Bertrand, which went to Lizzie Brochere.
