Prince William and Princess Catherine AKA Kate Middleton aren’t too thrilled about Prince Harry‘s upcoming appearance in the UK!
For those who don’t know, the 38-year-old will return to London for the annual WellChild awards on September 7. He reportedly will be making a speech and presenting an award at the event — much to the annoyance of the Prince and Princess of Wales, apparently!
According to The Daily Beast, a friend of William shared that the couple are extremely “irritated” about Harry’s plans to give a speech at the ceremony. Why? It falls on the eve of the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death, meaning there is a strong chance he will pay tribute to his late grandmother.

We agree, we would be shocked if he didn’t mention her during the speech, especially given he missed the awards last year in order to rush to be by Queen Elizabeth’s side. But why aren’t Catherine and William happy with the possibility? The pal explained to the outlet:
“It is increasingly hard to work out what Harry wants to be and do. He was appointed to be a patron of WellChild because he was a member of the royal family. Now this is something that he apparently wants to carry on doing in his capacity as a private individual. William and Kate will be irritated, especially by the date, but will just ignore it. What else can they do?”
Not much, it seems! We guess the bright side for the duo is that Meghan Markle isn’t expected to attend the ceremony! On top of the event’s timing, Harry reportedly will be in the UK on September 8 — the actual anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s passing — before traveling to Dusseldorf, Germany for the Invictus Games. But don’t expect the royal family to extend an olive branch and allow him to mourn with them!
William and Catherine plan to make a public appearance that day to remember the late monarch. However, a source for their camp told the outlet that the exact details would be announced soon. And when it comes to Harry, the pair will NOT invite him to join them for the appearance, nor will they entertain the idea of a private meeting with him while he’s in town. Did anyone really expect a reunion between the brothers though? Even in mourning?
As for the other royal family members, there will be no formal public events scheduled. King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to spend the day in “private reflection,” as courtiers have said. The friend also mentioned to The Daily Beast Harry would not be meeting with his father in Scotland. Basically, the Duke of Sussex is not welcome to see the royals at any point during his visit across the pond! Oof…
While there are concerns from the palace about whether Harry will try to disrupt the plans that day, William’s bestie claims Charles isn’t too worried about his son right now:
“Harry is a private citizen. What he does on the anniversary of the queen’s death is entirely a matter for him. The king certainly won’t be changing his plans in reaction to what Harry is doing.”
As for whether the 74-year-old ruler fears Harry’s appearance at the WellsChild awards will distract from the anniversary, the friend said:
“I don’t think anybody is under any illusions about the challenges that they face going forward with Harry. But the bigger picture here is that this is the anniversary of the monarch’s death, people will want to mark it in different ways.”
All eyes will no doubt be on the royals that week, especially if Harry happens to show up to see them. But for now, his family members seem determined to avoid him at all costs on the anniversary! Reactions, Perezcious readers? Let us know in the comments below.
