Amy Winehouse's Dad Debunks Misconception About Her Struggle With Addiction

Amy Winehouse‘s dad Mitch is opening up about his daughter and a common misconception about her death.

The “Back to Black” pop star passed away at the age of 27 in 2011. She would have turned 40 in September of this year.

Mitch is commemorating his daughter in a new book titled Amy Winehouse: In Her Words. He opened up about her in an interview promoting the project. In the process, he debunked a theory about his daughter’s struggle with addiction.

During a conversation with ET, Mitch acknowledged that his daughter struggled with addiction. However, the way that it is presented is sometimes blown out of proportion.

“Not a lot of people know that she was clear of drugs for three years [before] her passing, so that’s important,” he said of Amy.

He continued, saying, “[Amy] is a lot more than the singer, the person who struggled with addiction, much more than that.”

What was she? “Loving, kind, a wonderful family member and a wonderful friend. That’s what we want people to know about Amy,” Mitch said.

Amy‘s life will also be explored in a biopic titled Back to Black. Earlier this year Mitch reacted to news that Marisa Abela was portraying the beloved musician. We’ve also got photos of Marisa on set for you to check out.
