This family is preparing to say goodbye…
The award-wining ABC series Modern Family is ending after being on the air for over over 10 years and 11 seasons! The Dunphy and Pritchett clans have made stars out of so many actors, that we thought we’d look back on their journey from fresh faces, to Emmy winning household names!
So without further adieu, may we present the cast, then and now!
Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy
Sarah Hyland started acting in 1997, but the now 29-year-old really got her big break as Haley Dunphy on Modern Family! The show made Sarah into a star, and she’s been so busy since her start on the series. During hiatus from the show, the brunette kept very busy, landing leading roles in Indie films, smaller parts on TV shows, and she even had time to take on animated projects! Unfortunately, at the height of Hyland’s ABC fame, she was dealing with an extremely abusive relationship and very serious health issues. Luckily, she is feeling better these days and engaged to the love of her life — former Bachelorette star Wells Adams!
Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy
We met Ariel Winter at just 11 years old when she captured viewers’ hearts as the uber smart Alex Dunphy! Alongside her Modern Family duties, the actress lent her voice to shows like Phineas and Ferb and Sofia the First. Growing up on screen put a lot of pressure on the starlet, and her personal drama played out in the headlines. She was emancipated from her parents, dealt with body issues, and even put her studies at UCLA on hold to pursue other things. While it’s unclear what’s on the 22-year-old’s agenda next, we know we’ll see big things from her! Maybe now that her schedule has freed up, she’ll go back to school!
Sofia Vergara as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett
This is what made Sofia Vergara into what she is today! The Columbian actress, who played Gloria on the series, is arguably the most famous of the bunch! Since bursting onto US TV’s via Modern Family, Sofia has been in a TON of massively successful movies — like Machete Kills, Chef, Emoji Movie, The Smurfs, Happy Feet Two, among others! She’s also married to hunk Joe Manganiello. Sounds like she’s living a very sweet life, and has a long career ahead of her!
Julie Bowen as Claire Dunphy
Ahh Claire. Passionate, judgmental Claire! Julie Bowen was previously featured on Boston Legal, Weeds, and Lost — though her breakout performance was on Modern Family! Not only did she score Best Supporting Actress Emmys, but she also dove into voiceover work outside of the show. Listen closely, and you’ll hear the blonde beauty’s vocals everywhere!
Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy
The goofy and lovable real estate agent Phil Dunphy made Ty Burrell a star! Before the series debut, the actor had some traction on smaller TV shows, but Modern Family was his big hit! Since landing the role, Ty has starred in Disney‘s Finding Dory and Muppets Most Wanted. While it’s unclear what his next project is, we’re sure he’ll be scooped up as a series regular quickly!
Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell Pritchett
Before making his way to ABC, Jesse Tyler Ferguson was conquering Broadway in NYC. Once TV viewers got to know theater-loving Mitchell Pritchett it was game over — he became a huge success on the small screen! As for what’s going on now, Jesse is expecting his first child with husband Justin Mikita! Mazel!
Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker
Over the top Cameron put Eric Stonestreet on the map! Before he found this level of fame, he was known for his roles on CSI and in Almost Famous! Since the show’s premiere, Eric has done voiceover work alongside Ariel in Sofia the First, and appeared on American Horror Story! According to his IMDB, there are no future projects listed — but we can’t wait to see what he does for his next role!
Ed O’Neil as Jay Pritchett
Ed O’Neil was already super famous thanks to his stint in the ’90s on Married… with Children — but Modern Family put him back on the map! Like much of the cast, Ed did voiceover work in conjunction with the hit ABC series. Same as much of the cast, his future projects have not been announced.
Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy
Although he may play dumb on the show, Nolan Gould is extremely bright! After landing the role of Luke Dunphy at 11, the actor graduated with a GED at just 13. On top of that, his IQ is 150 and he’s also a member of high-IQ society Mensa International. Who would have known?! It’s not clear what the next step for Nolan is following his ABC run, but he’s young, smart, and rich! We think he’ll be just fine.
Rico Rodriguez as Manny Delgado
At just 11 years old, Rico Rodriguez totally stole our hearts as Manny Delgado! Modern Family has been by far his biggest role to date, but he’s kept busy all these years outside of the show! He’s done some Nickelodeon and Disney episodes, as well as animated projects! We can’t wait to see what the 21-year-old star does next in his career.
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily Tucker-Pritchett
Cam and Mitchell adopted baby Lily Tucker-Pritchett, played by Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, and the rest was sassy history! Although she didn’t play the baby version of the character, Aubrey joined the show at 4 years old! Modern Family is really her only acting credit, so she has a full career ahead!
