Kendall Jenner Vows To Educate Herself On Racial Injustice Years After Tone-Deaf Pepsi Ad

Many celebrities have shown support for the Black Lives Matter movement over the past several days after George Floyd‘s death. And now Kendall Jenner is finally using her voice to speak out on the tragedy, too.

In a lengthy new Instagram post shared on Monday, the KUWTK  directly acknowledged her white privilege, expressed support for protestors, and demanded justice for communities of color. Yes, this is all coming from the woman who starred in a tone-deaf Pepsi ad about police brutality only three years ago — but we’ll get back to that in a moment…

Kendall’s post began:

“to everyone reading this and to myself: keep researching, reading, and educating yourself on how we can become better allies. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking these past few days and my heart has been so heavy. I’m angry and hurt just like so many.”

She continued from there, shining an honest light on her own ignorance on the racial injustices people of color face every day:

“I will never personally understand the fear and pain that the black community go through on a daily basis, but i know that nobody should have to live in constant fear. I acknowledge my white privilege and promise I will continue to educate myself on how I can help.”

The 24-year-old model implored her followers to take their social media support beyond the internet to effect real change:

“raging on platforms can not be all that we do in order to repair the system, we need to take real action, off of social media. this is a time to have those uncomfortable conversations with people and mainly with ourselves. we must also make sure we are ready to vote when the time comes to elect the right people into office.
the one truth that will always ring loudest is that BLACK LIVES MATTER. ❤️ rest peacefully George Floyd and all victims of this horrible injustice”

A powerful and timely show of support from a member of one of the most famous families in the world. Her sisters Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian West, Kourtney Kardashian, and Khloé Kardashian also have posted in solidarity with the movement.

However, keeping in line with what Kenny just preached herself, we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out how she failed to speak up and educate herself on the matter back in 2017 when she made a very different political statement… with a Pepsi. (C’mon, if we didn’t say it, you know the Internet would too, and we ALL have receipts of that blunder…)

As you’ll likely recall, the supermodel made headlines when she appeared in a poorly-received ad for the soda company, which was eventually pulled after being accused of mocking, exploiting, or at best making light of the BLM organization. It’s said the 21-year-old didn’t have approval rights in her contract and relied on them to come up with a tasteful concept that was originally intended to “mirror all the global protests trying to make this world a more equal place for everyone.”

At the time, Kardashian konfidants told People how devastated Kendall was over the whole ordeal — but we didn’t exactly get THIS strong of response from her when it happened. And despite the fever pitch that has been reached within the last few days, it was still a hot button issue; people were dying at the hands of racially-motivated cops then, too.

But hey, better late than never. And we sincerely hope she and other celebs keep that same energy as the fight for equality continues. Remember, silence is complicity! Ch-ch-check out the star’s post in full (below):

Kendall has also decided to participate in #BlackOutTuesday, a social media initiative aimed at silencing otherwise trivial posts in favor of amplifying Black and POC-led accounts which are sharing useful information for protestors and supporters during this time.

Atta girl!
