King Charles III won’t be getting everything he wished for at his coronation!
According to the DailyMail.com’s the Mail on Sunday, two extremely famous performers have turned down the 74-year-old’s request to perform at his coronation concert! The day after the King is crowned, a large concert is set to take place on May 7 to celebrate, but who will be taking the stage has yet to be confirmed. And it’s actually proving harder than expected to snag an A-list group of stars!
Per the outlet, both Adele and Ed Sheeran have made it clear they will not be performing, despite requests! Apparently, the new monarch discussed his ideal list of performers with organizers of the event and he specifically wanted the Hello songstress to appear. Similarly, sources close to the Perfect crooner claim he wasn’t invited but organizers have been told he’s too busy and would be unable to appear at Windsor Castle anyway — regardless if they want him! Damn! Getting ahead of the invite.

The insider explained the conundrum further:
“The King has suggested a number of people he would like to perform and Adele and Ed were on that list. He was very keen that they were part of the concert. There is a team set up to get the talent signed up but they were unavailable, which was a massive disappointment. They are titans of the showbiz industry and are quintessentially British but also known across the globe. It’s such a shame.”
To be fair, it does look like Ed will be busy at the time of the coronation. According to his schedule, he has a show in Texas the day before the coronation… but it’s not like he couldn’t be there if he didn’t want to! Insiders claim he would have time to make the nine-hour journey via private jet (which he’s done before) if he really wanted to prioritize the coronation concert. While it’s unclear why Ed seems uninterested in supporting the new King, he did perform at Queen Elizabeth II‘s Platinum Jubilee Pageant last June. So, he’s made the effort before!
As for Adele, she has less of an excuse. As far as we can tell, she’ll have nothing going on at the time of the coronation! In fact, she doesn’t have any public plans following March 25, when her Las Vegas residency comes to a close. So why’s she skipping?? Hmm…
Despite these disappointing absences, His Majesty is still hoping to make the concert a success by inviting other well-known British musicians. Of course, everyone’s wondering if Harry Styles will be snagging an invite, but it is not yet known if the One Direction alum will be part of the line-up. That said, the King wants him to be there. Lionel Richie and the Spice Girls are also close to agreeing (though it hasn’t been confirmed if Victoria Beckham will appear). Previous reports have insisted all five performers will reunite for the coronation, so, it seems hopeful!

The concert will be screened by BBC with several thousand pairs of tickets to be made available to the public via a ballot. An anthem has been commissioned by Andrew Lloyd Webber as part of 12 new pieces for the coronation. The composer told the outlet:
“My anthem includes words slightly adapted from Psalm 98. I have scored it for the Westminster Abbey choir and organ, the ceremonial brass and orchestra. I hope my anthem reflects this joyful occasion.”
Andrew Nethsingha, an organist and master of the choristers at Westminster Abbey, is in charge of the musical arrangements and directing the music during the service, which will combine “a mixture of deep-rooted tradition and contemporary innovation.” He explained:
“It has been a privilege to collaborate with His Majesty in choosing fine musicians and accessible, communicative music for this great occasion.”
A handpicked gospel choir, The Ascension Choir, will perform at the coronation alongside the Choir of Westminster Abbey and the Choir of His Majesty’s Chapel Royal, among many others. Charles has also asked for Greek Orthodox music to be played in honor of his late father, Prince Philip. Andrew added:
“His Majesty has chosen a most beautiful and varied programme that I believe will enhance the splendour of this very special celebration.”
Sounds like a lot of attention is being given to the music! Let’s hope Charles can secure some big names for his celebration concert! So far, it’s looking a bit iffy. Thoughts? Who do YOU think should perform? Let us know (below)!
