Austin Butler is opening up about the sage advice Tom Hanks gave to him.
The two actors worked on Baz Luhrmann‘s Elvis together and in a new interview with The Times, shared what Tom told him as he dived deep into playing the iconic musician.

Speaking to the outlet, Austin explained that Tom offered up some advice about avoiding “emotional whiplash” following his run as Elvis.
“[Hanks] said, ‘You have immersed yourself so deeply in Elvis that, for your mental health, it would be wise to go straight into something else. If you just jump off the train, you might have emotional whiplash…”
The conversation led to Austin being cast in Tom‘s upcoming Masters of the Air, which will stream on Apple TV+.
The movie is the third of Tom‘s series focused in on military. It will be about the actions of the 100th Bombardment Group of the USAF, and is based on a book by Donald L. Miller.
In a separate interview, Austin also recalled his first meeting with Tom.
