Uma Thurman‘s southern accent in the new movie Red, White & Royal Blue has been a big topic of conversation on social media ever since the film was released last week and we decided to compile some of the best tweets.
The beloved actress plays President Ellen Claremont, the mother of Taylor Zakhar Perez‘s character Alex, who falls in love with the Prince of England.
Uma helps make the role an iconic one and she shares a touching scene with Taylor when his character comes out to her while in the Oval Office.
Director Matthew Lopez told Collider.com about working with Uma, “We had a lot of conversations about how, in American politics, women in power often have to sacrifice their understanding of their own femininity, in order to attain and hold onto power. What was most important to her and I was that Ellen can both be powerful and maintain her definition of femininity for herself. I included Uma in conversations about costume design, production design, and of the oval office set. When she walked onto the set, I have never encountered a more prepared actor. She understood, implicitly. She already understood why every piece of furniture was chosen for her. She understood why every article of clothing was there. It was a master class in prepared acting. She really rose, and she brought everybody’s game up.”

So, what are people saying about the accent?
The gayest thing about RED, WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE, which is actually quite gay, featuring a scene with a suitably big intake of breath at the outset of anal penetration (it's the little things!), is whatever Uma Thurman's accent is supposed to be

I watched RED, WHITE, & ROYAL BLUE last night but the only part I could remember this morning was when President Uma Thurman tried to explain to her son how to get started on PrEP in a thick Southern accent so 10/10 stars

Watching Red, White, and Royal Blue and they very clearly wanted Uma Thurman to do a Holly Hunter kind of accent but my queen said fuck y’all you’re getting Colonel Miles Quaritch from Avatar. The absolute madwoman.
