Tina Knowles-Lawson isn’t playing around!
Beyoncé‘s momma put Anna Wintour on blast this week, while simultaneously applauding Meghan Markle‘s friend Edward Enninful, editor-in-chief of British Vogue.

So what caused Momma Bey to get riled up? The (at this point widely reported) lack of diversity in Vogue. Along with a snap of Enninful, she shared on Instagram on Monday:
“Kudos to this wonderful Man Mr. Edward Enningful [sp] !! Editor of “British Vogue“ for boldly putting our beautiful Activists on the cover !!! When will American Vogue step up and hire more Black Photographers for cover shoots? We’re waiting……. @edward_enningful”
Hmmm… good question! In so many words, the 66-year-old is calling on the longtime Vogue editor-in-chief and Condé Nast artistic director to “step up” their game when it comes to featuring more Black models on the cover and in the pages, along with a more diverse staff. Before sharing Edward’s photo, Tina also praised one of the UK-based mag’s September covers (the most important issue of the year), which features Tamika D. Mallory, co-founder of the Women’s March:
“Yesssss!!!!! Congratulations Tamika and congratulations British Vogue !!!!! British Vogue For Putting this beautiful bold modern day freedom fighter on the cover of your magazine. And all of the other beautiful sisters !!!! , Out here fighting for our rights and our justice!!! Tamika is a gift to us , as she fights fearlessly every day in the trenches Getting arrested , Giving those who don’t have a voice a big voice! Let’s support her in anyway we can❤️❤️❤️”

For those keeping up with Queen Bey, you’ll recall her Vogue September 2018 cover made history because it was shot by Tyler Mitchell, the first Black photographer to shoot a cover in the mag’s history, and at the young age of 23 to boot! Explaining what the opportunity meant to him, he shared at the time:
“For so long, black people have been considered things. We’ve been thingified physically, sexually, emotionally. With my work I’m looking to revitalize and elevate the black body.”
And as for working with the legendary momma of three for her fourth Vogue cover, Mitchell explained:
“You’d imagine someone as famous as Beyoncé to be protective of her image, but she was really an open book — and that’s exactly what you want as a photographer.”
Let’s hope Anna actually takes the requests from Tina and so many others to heart. We already know people will be holding her accountable!!
