Bradley Cooper Wanted One of Lady Gaga's Very Personal Songs for 'A Star Is Born,' According to Mark Ronson

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s A Star Is Born duet “Shallow” is a massive hit that fans are unlikely to forget anytime soon.

However, it might have never become a thing if Bradley had gotten to use the Gaga song he originally wanted for the movie.

In a new interview, Mark Ronson opened up about how Bradley, who directed and starred in the 2018 blockbuster, had his sites set on one of Mother Monster’s very personal numbers for the movie.

He explained what happened and shared a bit of the story about the creation of “Shallow,” which famously topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019.

Speaking to NME, Mark recalled meeting with Bradley.

“We were working on Gaga’s album Joanne and Bradley Cooper stopped by the studio one afternoon. I like his films. He showed up looking like a movie star. So we hung out,” he recalled. “He was really sweet, talking about this new script that they were both doing. I played him the song called ‘Joanne’ and he’s like, ‘That’s great, can I have it?’”

Mark continued, noting, “I know he’s a big star and everything, but I really liked that song. And I kind of needed it for Gaga’s record.”

Instead, they worked on something new together, which became “Shallow.”

“We were working in this incredible studio in Malibu, [Los Angeles] – Rick Rubin’s studio, Shangri La – and it had this really long echoey hallway,” he shared. “I have this very distinct memory of Gaga’s voice coming from 30 feet away, sounding so excited about something as she came in. She sat down at the piano and started singing ‘I’m off the deep end…’”

Speaking of Lady Gaga‘s acting career, we recently learned that she went by a different name while filming her new movie Joker: Folie a Deux. No, it wasn’t her birth name Stefani Germanotta.
