Brian Austin Green is getting real about his secret romance with Tichina Arnold.
In case you didn’t know, Brian and Tichina were in a relationship back in the ’90s when she was starring on the sitcom Martin. She only recently revealed this last month, breaking the news on Deon Cole‘s Funny Knowing You podcast. She said their short-lived romance was a big secret back then, and she even shared the reasons they broke up:
“I told him, I said, ‘The reason why we’ve come to the end of our road, because I know I see you dating all these Black women now, you’re dating me and you’re not going to end up with a Black woman. You’re going to share your riches and your legacy with someone White. And so I’m getting off this train.'”
Yeesh. She said she knew the relationship wasn’t “going anywhere” and it was time to call it quits. But she did say it was “a great experience” and she gave Brian his flowers for being a great guy:
“Because he was a good human being. He was a good human being. And I think in life I had to experience that, so I know what the other side is.”

But now, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum is sharing his side of the story — and it’s a bit different!

On Deon’s podcast this Wednesday, Brian confessed how his relationship with Tichina started, as well as his friendship with Tisha Campbell:
“Tichina, she was doing Martin at the time when I was doing 90210. She was singing. I was producing. So, I became friends with her and Tish quick. That was an easy friendship. Tisha’s amazing also. So then Tichina started coming by the house and I was just playing beats, and I was like ‘Oh yeah, let’s work on some stuff.’ And we were doing that and then we ended up, because we were working together, we were around each other all the time, we just got along really well. So we ended up fooling around and kind of dating.”
The only thing? Tichina wanted to keep it under wraps. She didn’t want the news of their relationship getting out:
“I think coming from Martin, she was very clear…she was very clear on day one that, ‘Nobody can know about this’. So… I was in my early 20s, I was living in a culture that wasn’t accepting of me but there was no way to get out of it because that was just where my brain and my heart were.”
And the secret only led to one negative feeling — it made him “insecure,” he recalled:
“I have someone who I’m really attracted to who’s telling me like, ‘you can’t tell anybody.’ I think for me it really triggered something, like, ‘I’m not really good enough for any of this. You don’t even want your friends to know that you’re hanging out with me.'”
Oof. When Deon asked if Brian ever wanted to take their relationship public, he admitted:
“I wanted to in the beginning for sure and then I quickly felt like, ‘Oh okay….I have to shut the f**k up, you know, and sit in the back of the car like I’m happy to be in the car.”
Sadly, by the time Tichina was ready to go public, he had changed his mind because he didn’t feel like they were in a “real relationship”:
“My head didn’t understand. And I then still felt insecure and weird out with her, and I had that thing of like people are looking at me funny, or they’re wondering, ‘Why the f**k am I here or who does this guy think he is?’ So I was mind-f**king myself during that time period.”
Sounds stressful! They’re all good these days, though, so there’s no bad blood!
Brian went on to praise Tichina as one of his best friends:
“That’s my girl. I will always have her back. She has always had my back.”

We’re glad they were able to clear the air and still be friends today. Young love, especially in Hollywood, is never easy!
