Charity Lawson Defends Giving First Impression Rose to Brayden on 'The Bachelorette' Despite His Comments

Charity Lawson raised some eyebrows during the premiere of The Bachelorette this week.

If you missed it, the 27-year-old therapist gave away her first impression rose to someone that fans didn’t think would get it, and it was all because of what her brother, Nehemiah, told her on the show.

Keep reading to find out what happened on the premiere and the reason Charity shared…

Charity chose to give the first impression rose to Brayden, after hearing what Nehemiah told her.

On the premiere, fans say that Nehemiah had overheard what Brayden was telling the other contestants on the show about his kiss with her, and Brayden was confident that he was going to receive the first impression rose before she even made her decision.

Nehemiah obviously told his sister, telling her that Brayden‘s actions were a bit off putting and “problematic.”

However, his opinion didn’t deter her choice, and Charity gave Brayden the rose.

“My brother’s insight was, of course, incredibly helpful, and it may not make sense obviously after hearing that and then giving Brayden the first impression rose, but I’m capable of making choices on my own,” Charity shared with TheWrap. “His information, I definitely did store it… I think he wanted to keep me aware of [it] for future references of, ‘OK, this is confident right now, but this could also easily transition quickly over to someone who could be very cocky.’”

Charity admitted that yes, she did agree with Nehemiah about Brayden‘s bragging nature.

“Part of me is like, ‘Yeah, he’s excited.’ But that was an intimate moment. And I also shared kisses with other guys, and we don’t see them go[ing] and talk[ing] about that,” she added. “I definitely felt 50/50 on it.”

However, it was still her choice and she felt she connected enough with Brayden on other levels to give him that first impression rose.

“I was incredibly nervous, but excited to meet other guys — and they were, too. So I just remember sitting down with Brayden [and] we really just hit it off right off the bat,” Charity says. “We connected on so many different things — there’s similarities in our past dating history… Just him talking about why he’s here and [that he was] excited that I’m the Bachelorette — all those things really stood out to me.”

“The conversation just flowed effortlessly, I didn’t have to force the conversation to keep going, there was just this momentum that seemed to never stop,” Charity concluded.

While Brayden was one who got to stay on the show, find out which 6 men were seen to the door.

Be sure to tune in to The Bachelorette, airing at 8 pm E/TPT on Mondays on ABC.
