Whoa. We’re learning more details about the cheerleader who was found dead on a Carnival cruise ship, and it’s incredibly unsettling.
As we’ve been following, 18-year-old Anna Kepner was on a Carnival Horizon cruise with her family — her dad, Christopher Kepner, stepmom, Shauntel Hudson, and three stepsiblings — from Miami to the Caribbean earlier this month. On November 7, she told her parents that she didn’t feel well and headed back to her cabin — a room she was sharing with her 16-year-old stepbrother and another younger stepsibling. The stepsiblings joined her in the room shortly after, then the youngest headed out to take photos, and when they returned, they didn’t see Anna but thought she might be out exploring the ship.

After she didn’t turn up for breakfast the next morning, a staffer found her dead under her bed. She was wrapped in a blanket and covered in several life jackets. Awful. And that’s really just the tip of the iceberg. There is a lot of controversy when it comes to this family which complicates things. Catch up HERE.
Because the death happened in international waters, the FBI is currently investigating. While they’ve yet to share an official cause of death, a source close to the investigation has spoken out to ABC News, revealing the shocking findings.
On Friday, an insider alleged Anna died from asphyxiation caused by a “bar hold” — AKA an arm across her neck. Agents also determined there were two bruises on the side of her neck, suggesting she was choked to death. Horrifying.
The insider also claimed there was no preliminary evidence that indicated any signs of sexual assault, and no drugs or alcohol were in the teen’s system. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner is yet to release official findings. Autopsy and toxicology reports have not yet been completed.
Anna’s 16-year-old stepbrother is “a suspect,” according to his father, Thomas (though the FBI has not named a suspect yet). His mother has also claimed he could be facing criminal charges.
This poor girl deserves justice. We’ll be keeping an eye on further updates in the investigation…
