Donald Trump Under Investigation for Violating the Espionage Act: Could He Go to Jail?

Donald Trump may soon be placed under arrest.

This is a sentence millions of Americans have been clamoring to read for ages — but it may be closer than ever before to becoming a reality.

Earlier this week, FBI agents conducted a search warrant at Trump’s Palm Beach resort Mar-a-Lago, alleging seeking at the time a number of classified documents that the ex-President illegally smuggled out of the White House.

We now have an update on this shocking situation.

According to the property receipt of items recovered by these federal agents, they recovered a trove of top secret and other heavily classified pieces of paperwork.

NBC News reports that federal agents removed 11 sets of classified documents in total… including a handwritten note of some kind; information about the “President of France;” and an executive grant of clemency for former Trump ally Roger Stone.

They also discovered binders of photos.

On Thursday, the country’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, held a press conference in which he said confirmed his approval of this property search.

He also said the Department of Justice did not plan on making the raid a matter of public record, but then Trump himself released a statement about what transpired.

Said Garland:

“The department filed the motion to make public the warrant and receipt in light of the former president’s public confirmation of the search, the surrounding circumstances and the substantial public interest in this matter.”

Based on what agents allegedly recovered from Trump’s estate, the former Commander-in-Chief is under investigation for violating the Espionage Act.

He’s also under investigation for concealing/removing/mutilating federal records, and destroying/altering/falsifying records in federal investigations.

The Espionage Act was passed in 1917.

It prohibited obtaining information, recording pictures, or copying descriptions of any information relating to the national defense with intent or reason to believe that the information may be used for the injury of the United States or to the advantage of any foreign nation.

Garland filed a motion Thursday to get a judge’s approval to release the warrant and property receipt, arguing that it was in the public’s interest to see the records after Trump revealed the search had taken place on Monday.

Trump, in a diatribe on Truth Social, now says he welcomes this reveal, writing several hours ago:

“Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the unAmerican, unwarranted, and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home in Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago, I am going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents.

“Even though they have been drawn up by radical left Democrats and possible future political opponents, who have a strong and powerful vested interest in attacking me, much as they have done for the last 6 years.

“Release the documents now!”
