Elliot Page Reveals If He Thinks the Oscars Should Make Gender Neutral Acting Categories

Elliot Page is addressing the debate surrounding the gendered acting categories at awards shows.

For some time there has been talk about getting rid of the separate gender categories at awards shows like the Oscars to make the categories more inclusive for non-binary actors.

While promoting his new movie Close to You at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, the 36-year-old Oscar-nominated actor – who came out as transgender in 2020 – was asked if he thinks the Oscars should make acting categories gender neutral.

“Yeah, it seems like a good idea,” Elliot told Entertainment Weekly. “And, again, this sort of unusual aspect of that being the only category, right, where that sort of happens?”

“So, hopefully, we start moving beyond that degree of binary thinking,” Elliot added.

Elliot isn’t the first star to speak out in support of gender neutral acting categories.
