Erika Kirk is still all for the 2nd Amendment after her husband Charlie’s passing.
The widow appeared at The New York Times’ DealBook Conference on Wednesday, where she shared that she fully supports the right to bear arms, even after the Turning Point USA founder was senselessly shot to death back in September. Why? In her mind, the country doesn’t have a “gun problem” but a people problem instead. Erika explained:
“What I’ve realized through all of this is that you can have individuals that will always resort to violence. And what I’m afraid of is that we are living in a day and age where they think violence is the solution to them not wanting to hear a different point of view. That’s not a gun problem, that’s a human — deeply human — problem. That is a soul problem, that is a mental — that is a very deeper issue.”

Her words may or may not come as a surprise, given her beliefs. Still, it’s important to note that while, yes, mental health is equally important, and some people may still resort to such vicious acts, the point of the common sense gun safety movement is about minimizing the likelihood and opportunities for people to carry out such tragedies. It’s about saving as many lives as possible, and it’s *not* about taking guns away. It’s about safety and common sense. Prevention, people! Prevention matters, and you can care about both the mental health problems AND gun safety. They are not mutually exclusive.
