It was no great surprise when Farrah Abraham was charged with assault even though she denies it.
Bystanders had already documented her behavior on the night of the arrest.
But Farrah’s poor behavior is not a new development, and it impacts more than just security guards who are doing their jobs.
In fact, Farrah’s poor choices have taken their toll on Sophia’s life for many, many years.
One moment in particular comes to mind: when Farrah took her very young daughter to a clothing-optional beach.
Recently, Teen Mom fans have been taking a stroll down memory lane by viewing old clips.
It’s not the same thing as waxing nostalgic.
Rather than focusing upon the “good times” in the show’s history, many are horrified by how little some troubled cast members have changed.
Farrah Abraham will never change because she never believes that she has done anything wrong.
That has been boldly apparent for a long time.
The rest of us, however, have both eyes and judgment to know otherwise.
In a recently resurfaced clip, Farrah and her mother, Debra, are visiting the beach.
While Sophia is currently a teenager, she was only a very little girl when this throwback clip was filmed.
As you can see in this clip, it is no ordinary beach.
Seated on the sand, Farrah squints and then summons Sophia to her.
“There’s just some naked people around,” Farrah, of all people, warns. “You got to be careful.”
Sophia goes back to playing, while Farrah yells: “So just stare at mommy. Stare at mommy!”
There are complexities to the idea of bringing children to clothing-optional beaches.
It’s less a “stranger danger” concern (please watch your kids at clothed beaches, too) and more about social rules.
Young children are naturally learning from their environment at all times. They need to know where nudity is allowed. Context is key.
Obviously, some people took issue with Sophia being around nude beachgoers at all.
That’s fair, if not necessarily the real concern here.
The bigger issue is Farrah’s response — because she essentially did everything wrong.
We know that Farrah will never believe it.
But this is not the right approach.
Farrah managed to guarantee that Sophia’s focus would be on naked people, and implied that it’s shameful.
The proper response would be to simply be attentive, as Farrah should be anyway.
This means watching Sophia play, not interrupting her play to draw her attention to nudity.
When kids play at the beach, they are looking at sand, shells, and water.
If she looked up and saw a couple of people walking by in the buff, Farrah could address it.
What we’re discussing here is common sense. Unfortunately, Farrah has always lacked it.
