As previously reported, Fred Savage was fired as a producer and a director on the remake of The Wonder Years back in May.
A spokesperson for 20th Television confirmed this development at the time, simply stating:
“Recently, we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Fred Savage, and as is policy, an investigation was launched.
“Upon its completion, the decision was made to terminate his employment as an executive producer and director of The Wonder Years.”
Now, three months after this firing took place, The Hollywood Reporter has provided a bevy of new (and disturbing) details about what led to the dismissal.
On Tuesday, this outlet published accounts of six female crew members … alleging sexual harassment by Savage.
The story outlined the series of events that prompted these employees to send a complaint to Disney and to speak to a human resources executive about their concerns with Savage’s behavior toward females on set.
According to the report, the group of women claim they “saw two very different sides of Savage: a charismatic, seemingly supportive colleague and a far darker, angrier alter ego.”
They also say he “could flip to the latter persona in an instant and in such moments, one says, ‘His eyes would go dead.'”
However, one individual interviewed said he never behaved this way in front of actors or executives… who would only “see his absolute perfect, best face.”
One accuser told the publication that Savage once waited for her outside of the ladies room and “put his mouth on mine very forcefully.”
Savage rose to fame as a child actor when he starred on the original version of The Wonder Years.
He also played a major role in the film The Princess Bride… before growing into a respected television show director later in life.
Savage is married and has three kids.
However, another allegation revealed here centers around a young crew member who allegedly moved into Savage’s Atlanta home.
The six accusers who have spoken out say they came forward at this time because they were concerned about this person, who they claim was “fearful” of Savage.
For his part, Savage actually issued a response to the aforementioned accusation, saying the following to The Hollywood Reporter in the wake of this feature:
“Since I was 6 years old, I have worked on hundreds of sets with thousands of people, and have always strived to contribute to an inclusive, safe and supportive work environment.
“It is devastating to learn that there are co-workers who feel I have fallen short of these goals.
“While there are some incidents being reported that absolutely did not and could not have happened, any one person who feels hurt or offended by my actions is one person too many.”
The new Wonder Years premiered on ABC in September 2021. It was renewed for a second season in May.
Savage concluded his statement to The Hollywood Report:
“I will work to address and change any behavior that has negatively affected anyone, as nothing in this world is more important to me than being a supportive co-worker, friend, husband, father and person.”
