House of the Dragon‘s cast is mostly made up of actors from the U.K. who are working under the contracts of their local union, Equity. Therefore, the series is allowed to continue filming since the Equity members aren’t legally allowed to strike in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA.
Equity responded to news of the strike on Thursday shortly before it was officially announced, stating that they would “support SAG-AFTRA and its members by all lawful means.”
“A performer joining the strike (or refusing to cross a picket line) in the U.K. will have no protection against being dismissed or sued for breach of contract by the producer or the engager. Likewise, if Equity encourages anyone to join the strike or not cross a picket line, Equity itself will be acting unlawfully and hence liable for damages or an injunction,” Equity said to its members.
SAG-AFTRA called for a strike earlier this morning after contract negotiations broke down with AMPTP. Find out everything you need to know about the strike here.
