Jana Kramer is making SOMETHING work with her ex-husband, and it sounds like the duo couldn’t be better right now.
Of course, the country music singer and her ex, former NFL player Mike Caussin, share two children together: 7-year-old daughter Jolie, and 4-year-old son Jace. And even though the 39-year-old crooner hasn’t exactly always been on the same page with her former hubby, there’s no question they love those little ones a lot. So it warms our hearts to bring this update!!

This week the iHeartRadio Music Awards went down at the Dolby Theatre in El Lay. Before the show could kick off during the primetime evening hours, producers laid out the red carpet at the iconic venue and offered up an opportunity for all the stars to meet, greet, and mingle.
During that red carpet fashion walk, the Michigan-born Kramer caught up with People. The mag asked her how things are going with her 36-year-old ex — and specifically how the co-parenting relationship has gone. Thankfully, it sounds like their current communication is productive, healthy, and beneficial!
As reported on Tuesday, the former One Tree Hill star explained:
“We’re doing a really good job and I’m really proud of how we’re able to co-parent.”
She went on to reveal how both she and the former football hero have managed to put their longstanding personal issues to the side and focus solely on what’s best for the kids:
“I think the first year was really tough, but I think now we’re able to put our issues aside and then just come together for the kids because, at the end of the day, they’re the most important things to us.”
Snaps and claps!!
It sounds like the young ones have taken notice, too. When the mag asked how this healthy vibe has been handled by the two little munchkins, the Nicest Thing singer said Jolie and Jace are buoyed by seeing their parents “happy and talking.”
There’s more, too! Jana added:
“Tomorrow we’re coaching [Jace’s] baseball team together. We’re going to do what’s best for the kids.”
Play ball!
Sadly, Monday night’s iHeart Radio Awards shindig occurred just hours after the mass shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. As a country singer with deep ties to Nashville, Kramer lives in the area and has a lot of connections. Her kids didn’t go to the school, but the shooting still terrified her — as it did for all parents.

Kramer explained her newfound perspective on the red carpet Monday night:
“People are like, ‘who are you wearing?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t care. I want to go hug my kids right now.’ Their dad picked them up at school, and they’re good.”
The shooting hit very close to home for the I Got The Boy singer, too. As she revealed, Kramer knows several Covenant School employees and student families:
“I know a teacher that was there, and then we have some friends that have kids — but they’re safe — that went there.”
Ugh. So thankful those kids are safe, but still — what a horrible, horrible experience.
Ultimately, Jana walked the line between understanding the power of faith and the importance of action when it comes to ending things like school shootings and mass violence:
“A parent should never have to fear dropping their kid off at school and not knowing if they’re gonna pick them up. It’s just not OK. I’m a big believer in prayer. I’m a big believer in all those things. We need Jesus, yes, but we need action too.”
That’s a really good way to put it.
Obviously, the Covenant School comments certainly put a damper on the encouraging news about Kramer and Caussin. And we are so happy for their co-parenting chemistry! But sadly, Monday morning’s shooting in Nashville really put all that stuff into stark perspective, doesn’t it?
Sending love to Jana’s family and all the rest of those in Nashville affected in one way or another by this tragedy.
