Johnny Depp: Set to Receive $301 MILLION For Sixth Pirates of the Caribbean Film?!

Johnny Depp is on a winning streak.

Weeks after he emerged victorious from his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard, the 59-year-old is still receiving more media attention than ever before.

The crux of Depp’s case against Heard was that he had not been offered any lucrative acting work in four years as a result of a Washington Post op-ed in which his ex identified herself as a victim of abuse.

So Depp is probably very keen to monetize his current popularity.

Johnny Depp Is In Court

And he’s certainly in a position to do exactly that (provided all the allegations of substance abuse made during the trial haven’t rendered Depp uninsurable).

But even the actor’s diehard fans are suspicious of news that Depp will receive a record-breaking $301 million to star in a sixth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

That claim comes to us courtesy of a little-known outlet called PopTopic.

Johnny Depp Enters Court

“Disney is very interested in patching up their relationship with Johnny Depp,” a source allegedly told the site.

“They are very hopeful that Johnny will forgive them and return as his iconic character.”

Disney, of course, cut ties with Depp following the fifth Pirates film, and the contentious parting of ways was a subject of much discussion during the trial.

At one point, Depp was quoted as saying that he wouldn’t work with Disney again, even if the company offered him “$300 million and a million alpacas.”

So if the $301 million payday sounds a little too perfect to be true, that’s because it is.

“This is made up,” a spokesperson for Depp told NBC News this week.

So we guess that means Depp won’t be receiving the alpacas, either!

The $301 million figure seemed absurdly high from the start, so the revelation the rumors are bogus is not exactly surprising.

To put things in perspective, Depp was paid about $55 million for the fourth Pirates film, which was a record at that time.

Johnny Depp Outside the Courthouse

Sources say he made $90 million for the fifth film, but that included his share of the box office and merchandising profits.

In court, it was revealed that Depp raked in about $300 million in total for his work in all five films (an amount that the actor admitted was absurdly high).

So yeah, $300 million for one movie was always a ridiculous claim, but we guess PopTopic deserves some respect for shooting their shot.

Depp v Heard

Considering what an unexpected publicity boon this trial has been for him, Depp will almost certainly return to the big screen soon, and he’ll likely be very well compensated for his efforts.

But there’s no guarantee that we’ll ever again see him don the dreadlocked wig of Captain Jack Sparrow.

After all, Depp may have won the trial but he also admitted to rampant substance abuse during his time on the stand, and attorneys read text messages in which he fantasized about Heard’s rotting corpse.

Pirates 6 would almost certainly be a massive moneymaker — but very few corporations are as image-conscious as Disney.

And these days, Depp doesn’t exactly jibe with the company’s wholesome facade.
