Katy Perry knows that fans are ready for new music from her, and she is providing an update about when it might arrive.

It’s been three years since the 38-year-old “Dark Horse” pop titan dropped her last album Smile. Since then, she’s been keeping busy raising her child Daisy, whom she shares with Orlando Bloom, performing her Play residency in Las Vegas and judging on American Idol.

During a recent interview, Katy updated fans on where she’s at with new music and hinted at why she’s been taking her time with the next album.

During an interview on Good Morning America, Katy vowed that she is working on new music, which was described as “feeling really light and bright.”

“I think that I’m writing a lot and have written a lot from a place of love because I’m feeling so much of it — so much unconditional love, that love you never knew existed,” she said of the material she’s working on.

As for the wait, it sounds like Katy is spending time fine tuning everything before she unleashes it. That and that there is so much going on in her life!

“I’m always writing, I have been, but I think what’s really important to me is to be celebrating the world that I’ve got to build with all of these wonderful songs and to be responsible for a life for a 3-year-old,” she explained. “I will be back, but let me get this right.”
