A school in the UK has banned their students from singing songs from KPop Demon Hunters after parents started complaining about the movie.
We’re sure you’ve at least heard the name of the Netflix film — it’s taken the world by storm, and kids are really loving it! It follows the fictional K-Pop group HUNTR/X’s rise to stardom, and how they use their musical and fighting abilities to save the world from demons. It became the streaming platforms BIGGEST release ever, so it’s no surprise it’s all kids are talking about in school. It’s a cute movie!
Well, Lilliput Church of England Infant School had a BIG issue with it. Or, particularly the parents of the kids who go there had an issue. After an influx of complaints, head teacher Lloyd Allington sent out a letter last week about the movie. He claimed some parents were “deeply uncomfortable” with all the demonic references because it didn’t align with their faith:
“While we fully respect your right to make choices about the content your child engages with at home, we also want to be mindful of the diversity of beliefs within our school community. For some Christians, references to demons can feel deeply uncomfortable because they associate them with spiritual forces opposed to God and goodness.”

So what was the solution? To ban the students from talking about the movie or singing the songs:
“We are not asking parents to tell their children that there is anything wrong with enjoying the film or its songs if it aligns with your own views and beliefs. Our role will simply to be help children understand that some of their peers may hold different views and to explore how we can respect and support those peers in upholding their faith.”
A slippery slope, if you ask us… We mean, what other things will they ban if parents start complaining about it? It’s a dangerous, very thin line to walk!
For what it’s worth, some parents told the school this was “ridiculous” because they believed the movie and its songs taught their kids valuable lessons, such as the importance of teamwork. Allington confirmed on Monday he did receive these arguments, but he’s not backing down on his choice to ban discussion of the movie altogether.
