Lady Gaga Dedicates 'Jazz & Piano' Show to Tony Bennett, Performs Special Song for Him & His Wife

Lady Gaga had Tony Bennett and his wife Susan on her mind when she took the stage for the first performance of her returning Jazz & Piano residency in Las Vegas on Thursday night (August 31).

The 37-year-old Cheek to Cheek songstress took over Park MGM for the first of a 12-run string of performances. During it, she played classic songs from the American songbook alongside reimagined versions of some of her biggest hits.

She made time to honor the jazz legend, who passed away at the age of 96 in July. Gaga even performed a song for him and Susan.

According to reports, Susan was in the audience for Gaga‘s performance. The musician spoke to her during an emotional segment.

Susan, everybody in this audience loves you so much,” she said, according to ET.

She added that she “didn’t know exactly what to say about Tony, because this whole show was for Tony.”

“Everything. The opening number, the middle numbers, all the diamonds, all the musical instruments, all the conducting, all the improvisation was in his memory,” Gaga explained. “But if I know Tony well, I know that he would be real mad at me for being sad, so I couldn’t come out here and be sad.”

Gaga decided to perform a song that had a special connection to Tony - “Fly Me to the Moon.”

“I sung this song while Tony was still alive and I’m going to sing it now, even though he’s gone, ’cause he’ll never be gone,” she told the audience. “Susan, this is for you. I’m going to get through it. I promise. I’ll never do it as well as Tony, but I’ll try.”

Gaga mourned the loss of her friend in a moving tribute after his death.
