Madonna‘s brother Anthony Ciccone‘s cause of death has been confirmed.
According to a death certificate obtained by TMZ on Sunday, the eldest brother of the A-List performer died due to throat cancer and respiratory failure. Specifically he battled oropharyngeal cancer, a type usually caused by smoking cigarettes. The 66-year-old was a smoker and the certificate notes tobacco use did contribute to his passing.

Anthony tragically passed away in late February. His relationship with Madge had been complicated for quite some time, but in the months leading up to his death it seemed like things were getting better between them. After his passing, the Like A Virgin songstress took to her Instagram Stories to share some vintage snaps of the pair, as well as to thank him for being a good brother to her and inspiring her over the years. It was also reported to PageSix the Queen of Pop was covering all of his rehab stay costs in the time leading up to his passing.
Such a sad situation. Our hearts continue to be with Madonna and all of Anthony’s family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.
