Her characters brought so much joy and laughter to the world. It’s with a heavy heart that I share this today. Rest in peace, Catherine O’Hara — one of the greatest Canadian comedy icons of all time.”

Amy Schumer commented on a post about her death:

“Ugggg legend. No one funnier.”

Olivia Munn also chimed in to say Catherine was “the kindest person” in Hollywood:

“Absolutely heartbreaking. She was the kindest person in our business.”

Fellow SNL alum Mike Myers paid tribute in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter:

“It is a very sad day for comedy and for Canada. She was one of the greatest comedy artists in history, an inspiration for millions and above all a very elegant lady. Sending much love and condolences to her family.”

Posting a pic of Catherine’s iconic character Moira to IG, actress and comedian Sandra Bernhard mourned:

“A classic moment with the tremendous #catherineohara what a terrible loss she was a class act nuanced humble a total natural she brought buckets of joy to this old planet she will be deeply missed she was an inspiration to anyone who fancies themselves humorous a masterclass every time she stepped in front of a camera”

Then, like so many of us, Josh Gad shared that he is so shocked by the sad news — and isn’t ready to say goodbye. He wrote:

“I don’t understand what I’m seeing. I can’t bring myself to believe she is gone. Why is the world such a heart breaking place right now? I truly cannot process how to say goodbye to someone so full of life who seemed to just be hitting her prime. Goodbye legend. Thank you for making us laugh until we hurt… which is why right now we are all hurting so damned much knowing we will never again get those laughs. RIP. My love and deepest condolences go out to her entire family.”

Bob Balaban – who co-starred with Catherine in Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration — mourned her death in a statement to Page Six:

“Catherine O’Hara had an extraordinary kindness that so many Canadians seem to have. She also had the gift of loopiness that so many Canadian comic actors have, too — Eugene Levy, Marty Short, John Candy, for example.”

The actor joked that he thinks Canadian comedians’ “extraordinary kindness” and “loopiness” come from “having to wear a woolen hat with earflaps for too many months of the year” before concluding:

“Catherine was as smart as a person can be, but never showy. And effortlessly creative with material. She had great generosity, which she would often use to bolster another actor’s performance. And you have to love a person who, after they beat you at a big, big hand of poker, apologizes.”

Wow. It’s really hard to believe she is gone. See more tributes to Catherine (below):
