
Robert De Niro has made his first statement since hearing of the sudden passing of his grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez.
Over the weekend, it was revealed that Leandro, who is the son of Robert‘s eldest daughter, Drena, had died. He was just 19-years-old.

In a statement from the actor, via his rep at Page Six, Robert revealed that he’s in “distress” over Leandro‘s death.
“I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,” Robert’s statement read. “We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
Drena shared Leandro with graffiti artist Carlos “Mare139” Rodriguez.
Leandro appeared with Drena in three films, 2018′s A Star Is Born, 2005’s The Collection and 2018’s Cabaret Maxime.
No cause of death for Leandro has been released.
