Today show host Savannah Guthrie‘s mother Nancy Guthrie has vanished from her Arizona home, and now neighbors are weighing in about the increasingly concerning and unsettling situation.
Nancy, 84, is being described by those who know her as a constant presence on her street — someone woven into the daily rhythm of the neighborhood. That’s part of what makes this disappearance so hard to comprehend.

One neighbor, who lives on the same street, spoke to Us Weekly on Monday afternoon about that… and also about the fear many are feeling right now:
“Nancy is a longtime neighbor and dear friend and we are all worried about her. We live on the same street. [We are] in complete shock and very concerned.”
The news broke on Sunday that the NBC anchor’s mother was missing, sending shockwaves through the community and the wider public. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos didn’t sugarcoat the situation at the time, calling it “very concerning” and making it clear authorities are not ruling out foul play.
According to a missing person poster shared by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, Nancy was last seen Saturday night at her home. But perhaps most chilling is the fact that neighbors had just seen her going about her normal routine.
One recalled to Us Weekly a brief but memorable moment from just days before she disappeared:
“I just saw her two days ago [on Saturday] checking her mail. She was always smiling and always asking about our family and neighbors. She was very engaged with the community. … It’s very concerning.”
Authorities have emphasized Nancy does not suffer from cognitive issues. And in a second press conference they went further, stating they believe she did not leave on her own.

Investigators have begun treating the area like a crime scene, which includes going door to door and asking residents to check security cameras for any clue. The response from the neighborhood has been deeply emotional and united, apparently. One neighbor said:
“It’s heartwarming to see everyone in our neighborhood looking through their properties and neighboring properties to see if they saw anything at all. It’s a tight-knit neighborhood and everyone watches out for each other.”
Those who knew Nancy also spoke about her with a kind of reverence that makes this loss feel even heavier:
“[She is] a pure ray of sunshine and sharp as a tack.”
And perhaps most telling of all is how consistently she put others before herself. Another neighbor said:
“She was out driving to church a couple of weeks ago and I was walking and she asked [about my family]. She was always asking about other people and always concerned about them — never shining the light on herself, but always on others.”
As the investigation continues, Savannah has traveled to Arizona to be with her family, clinging to hope alongside a community that refuses to stop looking.
