Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Missing: Cops Fear Abduction As Neighbors Reveal What They Think Happened

Even more disturbing developments are emerging in the search for Savannah Guthrie’s missing 84-year-old mother.

As we’ve been reporting, Savannah’s mom Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona on Sunday, and police have already been making it clear they do not believe she left on her own. But sadly, there’s so much more.

According to a source close to the Today show anchor who spoke to DailyMail.com on Monday afternoon, the scene inside the home immediately raised red flags. That insider explained:

“Her stuff was left behind at the house: keys, ID, purse, phone. Everything. It’s not a situation where she voluntarily went away, because she didn’t take any of the things you would normally take if you voluntarily went out.”

That detail alone is SO chilling. The kinds of things you clutch without thinking when you step outside, even briefly, were all still there. And Savannah herself, understandably, is apparently also not buying the idea that her mother simply wandered off:

“[Savannah] doesn’t believe that her mom just went out of her own accord.”

At a press conference on Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos echoed those fears in language that felt measured, but unmistakably grave:

“We do in fact have a crime scene. She is very limited in her mobility. She did not just walk out of there. There are other things at the scene that indicate she did not leave on her own.”

Authorities have now said there is significant concern that Nancy may have been abducted from her home in the upscale Catalina Foothills neighborhood. A representative for the Pima County Sheriff’s Office told TMZ separately on Monday afternoon that investigators are reviewing footage from cameras at the home, nearby residences, local businesses, and even traffic lights. They are also reportedly looking into registered sex offenders in the area.

Nancy was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday night after being dropped off at home from a church function. She does not suffer from dementia or cognitive decline, sources have stressed, and she left behind medication she needs to survive.

Ultimately, the alarm was first raised when she failed to show up for church the following morning. Neighbor Paul Arnaud described to the Daily Mail the growing dread felt by those living nearby:

“We heard that the front door was left open. So, a lot of us are worried that it was an abduction because they did a thorough search throughout the entire day and early evening of the entire area and they could not find her.”

Another unnamed neighbor painted an equally grim picture as well, urging caution and not optimism:

“I don’t think they can say [what happened] yet, but it sounds like it was bad. It’s not like she was mentally unwell and wandered out, if you know what I mean.”

Jeez.

Homicide detectives are now involved, the FBI is said to be aware of the case, and Customs and Border Patrol have joined the search as well due to the home’s proximity to the Mexican border. Officials have said the effort is still being treated as search and rescue, but they cannot rule out foul play.

Ugh. We continue to send our love and best wishes for a happy resolution…
