Taika Waititi has plans for a follow-up to 2022′s Thor: Love and Thunder.
The 48-year-old director made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe directing Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok in 2017. While a fifth Thor standalone movie isn’t confirmed yet, Taika confirmed that he has some ideas should he get a green light.

Taika opened up about Thor 5 in the upcoming book ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ The Official Movie Special. Given the chance, he pictures raising the stakes even more for the hero.
“What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome,” he mused, via Variety. “I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable.”
Hela, played by Cate Blanchett, made her debut in Ragnarok. Thor faced off against Christian Bale‘s Gorr the God Butcher, another formidable villain, in Love and Thunder.
The director pictures “more and more outlandish and crazy beasts, monsters and aliens.”
He also wants to continue with keeping things lighter: “There’s a fun element to [Thor] and he has a casualness and a sort or swagger about him when he visits these worlds and encounters these aliens that I don’t think you’d get when it’s an earthling traveling through space exploring the universe.”
Chris weighed in on if he was down to reprise the role of Thor in an interview earlier this summer.
We also recently rounded up the 9 actors who he competed with to book a chance to embody the god of thunder.
