Taylor Cole & Stephen Huszar Dish On The Future of 'Ruby Herring Mysteries' at Hallmark Channel (Exclusive)

The Ruby Herring Mysteries might have only had three movies in the franchise at Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, but its one that fans are definitely asking about the future of.

Starring Taylor Cole and Stephen Huszar, the trio of flicks centered on consumer news reporter Ruby Herring, who discovers a knack for crime solving and finds a new career covering crime.

Dateline reporter Andrea Canning was actually the inspiration behind the series, and wrote all three movies.

However, after debuting in 2019, the series quietly wrapped up in 2020 – the start of the pandemic – and while it might be over for right now, Taylor and Stephen are still holding out hope for a revival.

While catching up with the actors about their new Hallmark Channel movies, Just Jared got to chat with both Taylor and Stephen about Ruby Herring Mysteries.

“When I go to these Comic cons and Christmas cons and all the things, one of the biggest requests is Ruby Herring,” Taylor shared with us, adding that “I don’t know what to tell you, but I’m not losing hope. There’s still a chance, there’s always a chance.”

She went on saying that she feels “they revive these things all the time and if we get enough people together, we can make this happen. I feel like after years and years of different series that they’ve all come back. So, there’s still hope for me. Love that character.”

Taylor then opened up about one of the biggest things for her with the franchise was knowing that Andrea wrote them all.

“She’s basically like, this is my job as a investigative reporter. I would be the world’s best investigative reporter if I actually solved the crimes as we were doing them,” she shared, and recalled one story Andrea told her of “how she did have a part in solving one of the things because the guy was doing an interview and she interviewed him like 10 years later and he said something about he couldn’t see because he didn’t have glasses. But then when he was doing the interview with her, like years and years ago, he wasn’t wearing glasses, which means that he could, he wouldn’t have been able to see her like this whole thing. Like she pieced it together herself.”

Taylor adds, “I’m not sure if that was like the origin of like Ruby Herring, but I just thought that was so interesting. So I just love that Ruby’s in this world of investigative journalism and that she’s on the job figuring it out herself.”

Stephen also opened up about the franchise, revealing where what his hopes for additional movies would have been about: “Just solving more crimes, with Taylor’s Ruby getting smarter and maybe taking over for the police force (laughs).”

“I think it was nice how we just had a three picture deal and it had a nice flow to the, to the episodes. Andrea Canning, our writer/phenomenal Dateline reporter…she comes up with these really incredible stories,” he added. “It would be interesting if maybe one day we can revisit and write another few of them.”

Ruby Herring Mysteries is just one of the many franchises that are “on hold”, with any official cancellation announcement.
