The Colosseum Did Not Invite Elon Musk & Mark Zuckerberg To Host Cage Fight There, Italian Ministry of Culture Says

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg seem to be moving forward in their proposed cage fight, and the Tesla CEO even suggested that they hold the fight at the Colosseum in Rome, Italy.

There have been reports that the Italian government has offered up the historical site for the fight, but the Italian Ministry of Culture has denied them all and released a statement on the matter.

“Some chance fight happens in Colosseum,” Elon first suggested in a tweet on Friday morning (June 30).

Then, TMZ reported that the Italian government actually made the offer – but the Ministry of Culture says otherwise.

While Italy isn’t saying no to the tech titans, they aren’t saying yes and offering up the architectural wonder either.

In a statement from Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, via the Corriere della Sera newspaper, they state that if Elon and Mark wanted to have it at the Colosseum, they need to have a charity component to it, and it has to be a “non-violent challenge.”

Here’s the full statement, translated from Italian: “There has been no formal contact nor any written document by the ministry, even if the news appears tasty it is unfounded. The Colosseum is granted, not from today, for high-profile paid events almost always for charity. Each request is carefully evaluated by the management of the Archaeological Park and is not the responsibility of the political body.”

“If Zuckerberg and Musk wanted to perform in the Colosseum they would have to make a non-violent challenge. Maybe a sort of certomen, a duel involving Latin verses,” the statement continued. “And they should ensure a suitable economic contribution to be donated to the protection of the Italian historical heritage and perhaps a share to Emilia Romagna.”

In May, the region of Emilia-Romagna was effected by unprecedented flooding.
