Ariana Grande is “honoring” her younger self.
If you’ve seen Wicked or now its sequel Wicked: For Good, you might have noticed a little something extra once the credits rolled. Ariana goes her FULL name Ariana Grande-Butera! For those who don’t know, her mother Joan’s last name is Grande, while her father Ed’s last name is Butera. However, those two divorced when the Hampstead singer was a child, and for years, she’s built her career off the Grande name alone! So why throw in “Butera” after all this time?

During a resurfaced interview with Hit Network from last November, the Oscar-nominated actress dished:
“Technically, it’s my little-girl name. It’s technically little Ari’s name. I just feel like this experience was such a homecoming for me. I feel like I came home to myself in a lot of ways through what I learned from Glinda, from Elphaba.”
Awww! And if that alone wasn’t sweet enough, she reflected on a true “full-circle” moment relating to when she saw the Wicked stage play years ago:
“That was my name when I went to see the show when I was 10 years old, and it felt like a really lovely way of honoring that. It felt really full-circle, and it just felt like something I wanted to do.”
We love that! But don’t get used to seeing Butera on your screens… When Universal Pictures announced Focker-In-Law, the latest entry in their Focker franchise over the summer, starring Ari, she was listed as “Ariana Grande” alongside co-stars Ben Stiller, Rober De Niro, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo, and Owen Wilson.

Furthermore, when it was announced last month that The Boy Is Mine singer would be appearing in American Horror Story’s 13th season next year, she was billed as “Ariana Grande.”

No “Butera” in sight!
